MANKATO Minn AP state College Board plans elimination of 167 faculty roles across six Minnesota state colleges next biennium amid declining enrollment. The board also trimmed operating funds requested from the legislature to 87.2 million, down 4.1 million from prior figures, with total biennial appropriation at 83.3 million. Enrollment is expected to drop about 1500 students by next fall, driving the cuts under board rules. Bemidji State College will incur a share in the non retention program. Nixon halts most of 18 billion pollution aid package
President Nixon ordered only half of the authorized funds for wastewater treatment be spent. EPA head William Ruckelshaus said about 2 billion in 1973 and 3 billion in 1974 would be allotted, with substantial remaining authorizations left unused. Critics in Congress called the move a disregard for Congress and a veto override commitment.

Bemidji approves 1973 budget levy with 17 percent rise
Bemidji City Council adopted resolutions for a 1 242 854 budget and a 415 478 levy for 1973 with final approval set after a public hearing December 11 at 7 p.m. The budget increases 17 percent from 1972 while the levy drops 10 mills from 457 089, offset by Federal Revenue Sharing funds and non local revenue.

Bemidji State College trustees and the Minnesota State College Board named two new classrooms as Harold Hagg and Philip Sauer Hall and a third as Harold T. Peters Aquatics Laboratory. Hagg Sauer headed social studies and language divisions, Peters led science and math. Buildings sit lakeside near Bridgeman Hall and Bangsberg Hall. Drs. Hagg Sauer Peters long served BSC. Hagg was history chair since 1936. Sauer led language and literature 1937–1968. Peters joined 1946 and helped design the medical technology program.
