Accident claims its second life

A two car collision five miles south of Cass Lake on November 10 killed Emil Blatter, 73, Bemidji, and left his passenger, Martha Smith, 82, Guthrie, dead on arrival at Bemidji Hospital. Vera Blatter, 73, remains in good condition as six others in the second car were treated and released.

FCC OKs AT&T Local Hike

Washington AP AT&T won FCC approval to raise long distance rates by less than 2 percent to achieve an 8.5 percent return on investment with a possible 0.5 percent boost from efficiency. County Receives State Lands Revenue Share Details

Beltrami County totals 31,800.68 in reimbursements from Minnesota Lands and Forestry. Regional sources note 50 percent of annual gross receipts from state conservation and forest lands returned to the county of origin. Northwest Region distribution favors Beltrami, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods, and Roseau. Beltrami’s revenue comes from timber sales, mineral exploration leases, and land sales. Neises Cleared On Tax Charge In Minnesota Case

Richard J Neises mayor of Cass Lake and bank director was acquitted on three counts of income tax evasion after a seven day trial. The jury found the government failed to prove sources of the extra income alleged for 1965 to 1967, noting much of it may have belonged to Neises' father who runs a Cass Lake general store.
