In a 2 to 1 vote Monday evening the Park Rapids City Council approved plans to build a new municipal liquor store. The 1942 Park Rapids municipal sales totaled $514 416, ranking 25th among Minnesota municipal outlets.
Superintendent Jack Gibson announced Akeley High School has secured commitments for two transport loads of fuel in November and December. The supply should cover the school through February under normal conditions, with hopes for an emergency allotment afterward.

Low priced meals for senior citizens will begin Tuesday, Nov. 20 at the Viking House Restaurant in Bagley. Mrs. Ethel Anderson, owner, will serve the special meal at noon five days weekly for 50 cents. Menu will vary daily and offer a full balanced meal.
The Walker Pitot District Heart Fund chairman Mrs Thelma McGuire Route 1 Cass Lake has been appointed District 5 Heart Fund Chairman by Harry Shearer northern regional heart fund chairman of the Minnesota Heart Association. She will oversee volunteer efforts in five counties and also serve as Cass County chair man and treasurer.
About 50 people met in Walker to discuss a proposed 50 mile trail using old railroad beds for snowmobiling and hiking through Cass and Hubbard Counties. The project would follow the Burlington Northern grade with state and county funds already set aside for right of way. Local groups will assist in planning and construction, including warming houses and markers, as part of a grant aided network with 65 percent state and 35 percent county support. A meeting to form a Cass County committee is planned at the Dutchman in Walker on Sunday November 18.
State Sen Earl Renneke of Le Sueur says he is unalterably opposed to a proposed 67 million tax load to fund safety measures for school buses. He notes district officials oppose the bill and argues it would add costly gadgets, reduce capacity, and burden taxpayers. He favors safety education in schools instead.
