Day Activity Centers honored by state proclamation

Gov. Wendell Anderson designates November 15 as Day Activity Center Day to highlight services for mentally retarded individuals. Beltrami County center serves 24 adults and four preschoolers with programs emphasizing basic social skills and health habits through BRIC curriculum.

Forecast calls for a cloudy and colder day with a few snow flurries and traces of drizzle or freezing drizzle. Light rain possible in extreme southeast early afternoon. BHS Calendar Highlights This Week

On November 20 the Band and Orchestra Concert will be held at 8 in the auditorium and a University of Minnesota Assembly is set for 2 10. Thanksgiving break follows with school not in session on November 22 and 23.

Fires damage parade float and garage in Bemidji area

Two fires Wednesday in Bemidji caused major property loss with no injuries. Firefighters responded at 10:35 a.m. to Diamond Point near Bemidji State College where a parade float and trailer owned by the Bemidji Area Chamber of Commerce were heavily damaged. At 12:32 p.m. a garage and shed by the Cut-Rite Service station in Nymore burned down. Cause suspected as children playing with matches. Also credit to hospital birth: a son born to Mr. and Mrs. Danny Monson of Bemidji on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

Beltrami County Fair Plans Advance for 1964

Beltrami Fair Board Secretary Leon Johnson reports most preparations are complete for the 1964 Beltrami County Fair. The event runs Friday through Sunday August 9 to 11 with Matt Armstrong Shows mid week. The big horse show is Aug 9. Roy Drusky Pee Wee King Collins Sisters and Redd Stewart perform Aug 10. Loners added. Demolition derby closes the fair on Aug 11.

In Bemidji James W Walkup Jr faces a 150 dollar fine or 30 days jail for marijuana possession and related offenses with a year probation and optional drug course. John Harrison also fined 150 dollars with 30 days jail suspended for one year, plus a Bemidji State College drug course. Charles Geller’s simple assault case continued to Nov 19. Patricia A Lawrence pled guilty to DWI and a pre sentence investigation was ordered. Hazel Hogstead case dismissed for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. Bond forfeits include James R Kubovec 35 dollars for speeding and Robert D Bohen 20 dollars for unreasonable acceleration.

Airport zoning changes discussed for Bemidji Airport

During the regular monthly meeting the joint city county Airport Zoning Board discussed changes in the proposed Bemidji Airport ordinance. A vote is expected at the December 19 meeting, then state aeronautics officials review. A public hearing would be held before submission to the city council and county board.

Three Injured In Buick Collision At Bemidji

Three people were treated at Bemidji Hospital after a collision at 26th Street and Bemidji Avenue about 9 15 p m. Mary Williams 2618 Irvine Ave and Gary Hover Tenstrike drivers suffered cuts and bruises while Pamela Preston Tenstrike a bruised knee. Both cars a 1966 and a 1962 Buick were total losses per police.

Icy Road Crash Near Birchmont Lodge Causes Minor Damage

Deputies report icy CSAR 20 conditions contributed to a one car crash near Ruttgers Birchmont Lodge at about 8 30 a m. Driver Naish McKinnon of 123 Mississippi Ave escaped injury. Vehicle damage estimated at 2000 dollars with two telephone poles damaged for about 200 dollars.

Funeral services held for Eddie O Carlson in Alexandria

Eddie O Carlson sixty of Alexandria died Saturday November tenth. Funeral rites Wednesday November fourteenth included military honors with pallbearers John Landeen Lester Uybeck Erwin Barsmess Ronald Emter Harry Bailey William Kumnal and burial at Evergreen Cemetery. Survivors include widow Alverna Carlson son Edwin Carlson Bemidji daughter Louise Indiana and five sisters and two brothers.

Northwest Minnesota residents meet on water resource priorities

About 95 attendees from 21 counties joined the Water Resources Conference at Bemidji State College to identify key water problems and propose research priorities. Dr. Fuchsman noted broad representation and actionable suggestions, with findings to be publicly released after data correlation.
