Bemidji High School announces 15 students named honor graduates for the Class of 1973. Director P. L. Tenney notes selection was based on scholastic achievement. Graduation set for Sunday June 3 at 4 p.m. at Bemidji State College.
The 1972-73 school year ends with a concert at Bemidji State College featuring the concert band the women's glee club and the varsity choir in Bangsberg Hall main theatre. The program is free and open to the public.
Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. applies to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency for approval to lay a buried submarine communications cable across Cass Lake. Written statements supporting or protesting the project should be sent to the PCA.
Ninth District Judge Gordon McRae found a Cass County Grand Jury report on Leech Lake Legal Services unfair and ordered large portions stricken from the record. He ruled accusations must be proven and criticized the report as lacking basic fairness. Portions removed cited threats toward schools and officials and clashes with bar associations over the Legal Services Project.
About 40 people attended a public hearing by the Governor's Environmental Quality Council at Bemidji State College to discuss copper and nickel reserves in north central Minnesota. Three more hearings follow in Ely, Duluth, and St. Paul. Speakers included DNR Commissioner Robert Herbst and Gene Gere of DNR. Gere cited InterAgency Task Force findings that new mining could create 3,000 jobs.
Washington sources tied to the Watergate inquiry report a secret White House plan to spy on domestic radicals was initially blocked by FBI director J Edgar Hoover but later partly put into practice. Nixon said he withdrew the plan in July 1970 after Hoover objected.
