Minnesota passes strict safe toy law with broad reach

Minnesota lawmakers approve one of the nation’s toughest toy safety laws. Consumer Services Director Sherry Chenoweth gains power to ban hazardous toys and regulate children’s products including clothing, cribs, car seats, and sleepwear. The measure allows testing, requires refunds up the supply chain, and targets extreme hazards such as heat and toxicity. Community groups like MPIRG helped shape the bill and public hearings will define enforcement standards.
