The Pioneer announces its Question Mart offers to solve readers problems by acting as a go-between to cut through red tape and obtain replies from proper authorities. On request it will plead a case to authorities.
A Bemidji reader asks how to remove bats from the attic after insulation backed up a chimney. Advice notes bats can enter through openings as small as half an inch and suggests daytime installation of naphthalene flakes to deter roosting, then sealing all openings except one for a few days to ensure departure. Warns against handling bats due to rabies risk and to wash hands after removing any dead bats.
Vic Weber notes the outfield fence was taken down after the college season to maintain grounds and avoid interfering with summer intramural softball. No college baseball is scheduled this summer, and non college groups must negotiate facility use through the vice president in contract form.
Sid Swedmark of the Bemidji Chamber warns against out-of-town magazine canvassers. He says two groups now operating in Bemidji hail from Grand Rapids and Maryland and urges thorough verification before any purchase.
Graduation for 950 Bemidji State College seniors is Sunday at 2 p.m. in the college stadium with a rain plan to the fieldhouse. The program opens at 1 15 p.m. with the BSC band directed by Dr Theodore Thorson and features addresses by Dr R D Decker and David Sorenson. Invocation by Fr Paul Kabat and assistance from Arnold C Anderson and Kennon V Rothchhild. Dr Richard Beitzel will present the class. junior honorary ushers are Pamela O Connell and Nic Dressen. A tea for graduates and guests follows at the A C Clark library mall.
Acting secretary Sid Swedmark announced that the National Circulation Company of New York may solicit magazine subscriptions in Bemidji, but the drive is not endorsed or sponsored by the Chamber. He noted no denial of permission but urged public awareness of the Chamber’s non sponsorship.
A three judge panel unveiled new legislative districts for Minnesota, pitting incumbents against each other and creating open seats. Key matchups could include Richard Palmer versus Tony Perpich in the Senate and Aubrey Dirlam versus Thomas Simmons in the House. The plan sets 67 Senate seats and 134 House seats, with districts drawn to balance population and include targeted minority representation in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Candidates must move and establish residence by June 26, with senators required to seek election in the new districts this year.
The 1969 act lets those who moved into their own homes from Jan 2 to June 1 1972 apply by June 15 for a one half homestead classification. Applicants must be owner and occupant and submit to the County Assessor. Deadline is strict. late filings after June 15 are not considered.
Bemidji Hospital Board reduces daily patient room charges to December 1970 levels effective June 1 1972. Administrator Leon Swanson cites rising costs but increased utilization offsetting them. Board aims to aid by aligning with Federal Economic Stabilization Program goals. Swanson urges public input via Agassiz Health Planning Council survey through schools.
The State of Minnesota has acquired eight parcels in the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex block on the Bemidji State College campus. The $150,000 purchase was funded by the 1971 legislature with earlier funds from 1969. Occupancy is allowed until July 15, with plans to prepare the land for college use including sale of buildings by July 5 and demolition work to follow, paving the way for temporary parking and eventual auditorium and art department additions.
President Nixon urges Congress to ratify the Moscow accords and approve ABM limits while backing a broader agreement to curb offensive missiles. Supporters call the move a foundation for a new relationship, with critics warning the pact may favor the Soviets in strategic missiles.

The 9th Circuit ruled the Bureau of Indian Affairs unlawfully restricted general assistance for Indians living outside reservations. Judge Kilkenny said the Snyder Act covers aid throughout the United States and remanded for a judgment ordering benefits for Ramon and Anita Ruiz of the Papago tribe in Arizona. A separate note mentions a Bemidji chamber joint meeting at Sands Cafe on Tuesday June 6.
