Col Wellman of Friendship Dead After Long Service
Col Abijah J. Wellman of Friendship dies at 53 after years of banking lawmaking and military service. He led First National Bank of Friendship, served in the New York State Senate, and commanded a volunteer regiment in the Civil War. A devout Baptist, he supported the poor, built a grand church, and left a large family and wide community mourning his loss. Funeral held at the brick church. burial in Mt Hope.
