Extraordinary account of the Strathmore disaster from London telegraph notes the ship's grounding near the Crozet Islands in 1875. Fifty people survived weeks on a barren rock by birds, eggs, and improvised fires before the Young Phenix from New Bedford rescued 44. The captain perished. the voyage ended in tragedy and endurance.
