Mexican insurgents captured New Laredo after fighting on the 11th while a large Chicago gathering urged radical reform in city government. Thomas Hoyne was nominated for mayor as officials faced resignations. Congressional probes revealed clashes over the District Ring and wartime graft linked to Gen. Babcock.

A cat and kitten were given to a lady who took them to Mr. Edwards store for transport to the country. They were sent by train to Santa Clara on Southern Pacific and left at a residence there. The cat later returned alone to its original owner in this city, covering about 49 miles in darkness. The animal will stay with the family.
