Indianapolis Sept 16 Sergeant Edwin G C Ball was acquitted today by court martial of killing Walter Dowell a private of New Albany who had been under arrest and shot while attempting to escape during the court martial proceedings.
Indianapolis Sept 16 The State in the Bell trial faced a possible crisis as Bud Gibson star witness for the state admitted under cross examination that before the federal and local grand juries he testified Bell’s hands were free from fraud. The state argued Gibson’s testimony vindicating Bell followed his guilty plea and aimed to protect conspirators.
A group of children celebrated Master Leo Kern's seventh birthday at his Breckenridge road home on Wednesday. Jolly games and photo sessions filled the party with grape and candy treats. The case of Swallow versus Hostetler enters the wareroom of A Bridwell & Son Grocery Store Thursday afternoon. The thief made an escape after damaging property in the store.
The Swallow vs Hostetler case reached the jury after opening Tuesday and proceeding through Thursday. A sneak thief robbed A Bridwell & Son grocery near 15th and I streets, escaping with potatoes and onions as Mr Bridwell pursued toward 14th Street.
N. S. Ikerd left Thursday for Oblong Indiana to begin work on a large contract for the new Bedford Stone high school building. He was the bidder awarded the project with an estimated completion of about nine months. The brick and Bedford stone structure carries a cost of about 62 000 dollars.
Thomas W. Nelson filed a $5000 damages suit against the Chicago Terre Haute and Southeastern Railway Company through lawyers R L Mellen and Frank E Gilkinson. He alleges on July 8 1915 at Odon he was prevented from boarding a train in Bedford by railroad workers causing humiliation and damage. Mrs Katie Bass of Mitchell was in the city Thursday.

William Howell and Elza Mitchell were arrested and charged with assault and battery. The incident prompted police investigation and formal charging, with both individuals held for court proceedings.

Charles Parham's sixteen month old son Charles Raymond died Wednesday evening at his Fourth and P streets home. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 PM with burial at Green Hill. James Bell made a business trip to Orleans Thursday.
Oliver Fines age 35 may die from injuries after a large stone slab fell on him while kneeling at the P. M. and B. Quarry north of Oolitic. He was unconscious and taken home for care after concussion and chest and head trauma. doctor J. T. Freeland treated him. Fines is married with three children and is cousin to Andy Fines, with his mother living at Pleasant Ridge near Owensburg.
Bedford and Huff Specials renew rivalry at Huff Park next Sunday led by pitcher Ben Taylor now with Bedford and catcher Bass. Donica Nicholson and other locals suit up for Bedford as Hansford Crowe form the battery for Huff. Game at 2 30 with a quarter admission. billed as a strong matchup after last Sunday's controversy.
Ragsdale of Western Cereal Company and Detroit executive Whelden discuss establishing an Indianapolis plant to manufacture Crimpt Wheat, a new whole wheat breakfast food. Whelden will join as general manager and return to Chicago afterward. The Washington corporation has operated in Spokane for two years and aims to market the product early next year. Morris, father of Mrs. Herndon, has been moved from Bowling Green to Louisville for medical consultation and will come to the city when fit.
