Charles Bivin has bought the Baugh livery barn for 12000 dollars and will convert it into a premier skating rink in Bloomington. The rink will be owned by Bivin and his brother in law S D Fair of Clay City and hardwood flooring has been ordered.
The Bedford Western Union telegraph office failed to open on Wednesday as planned. James Bingham Indiana attorney general will represent the state railroad commission in a suit by Monon railroad to block enforcing a reduced coal freight rate in the Linton fields. Hearing set before Judge Linton in Lafayette superior court tomorrow with Dowling assisting McHugh for Monon. A temporary restraining order may be granted with final hearing date fixed. Monon offers bond to protect shippers if rate cut from 75 to 50 cents is upheld. Similar cases in other states and a Supreme Court ruling allow state bodies to fix rates not confiscatory.
Professor J A Stoneking will lecture and demonstrate wireless telegraphy at the First M E church in Bedford on Tuesday Sept 8 1907 at 8 o clock. The talk covers wireless origins and current status with demonstrations including remote message transmission bell lighting motor and streetcar operation through space ether and distance cannon firing and amine explosion.
A major fire destroyed the Louisville newspaper building sending crews to battle flames through the night. Fire officials report extensive damage with the plant’s printing presses and archives damaged beyond repair. No casualties reported at this time.
The five story Courier Journal building at Fourth Avenue and Green Street in Louisville burned to the ground at midnight on Thursday. The loss, including the press and contents, is estimated at 160000 dollars with the private library of Col. Henry Waterson believed ruined. The Louisville Times, its evening edition, also operated from the same building. Col. W. B. Haldeman, owner, is in Europe. No Friday issue could be produced.

An elegant noon dinner followed a morning of reminiscence shared among old neighbors.

Mrs J A Mitchell received word of the advent of a new son to Mr and Mrs Harry Kent of Dublin Ireland. Kent is remembered by local youths for work in the city and a prior marriage to Nellie Mitchell who died after childbirth.
