United Press reports the Austro German offensive has started moving toward Constantinople with large forces crossing the Danube Save and Drina into Balkan soil. Sofia has not replied but Bulgaria’s entry into the war is anticipated. Berlin claims Bulgaria’s entry could hasten the war’s end at many points.
Indianapolis report says Mayor Bell took the stand as the first witness in the corruption case. The state closed at 9:30 this morning and Bell denied conspiracy to influence the election while discussing the primary.
The community learns Frank Hoopingarner of West Sixteenth Street is unconscious at home since Wednesday night. He has Bright's disease and is expected to die at any moment.
Dr. John H. Cottom, who received a suspended sentence of one to eight years with child support conditions, is under arrest in Bloomington. An officer is dispatched to return him to Bedford and he has been cited to appear in Lawrence circuit court to explain why the order was not followed.
Bertha Austin through Smith and Roach filed in Lawrence circuit court a divorce suit against George Austin citing cruel inhuman treatment. She alleges obscene names false accusations of infidelity and beating and asks restoration of her former name Bertha Jones. Separately Lee Little, through Faris and McNabb, sues Mitchell Lime Co for 8000 damages claiming a blast caused injuries from flying spawls.
Russian barons Jacques and Richard de Stackelberg, sons of nobility, arrive in New York for a grand tour of America, photographed on their arrival.
The West Baden Sprudels announced a stronger lineup for next Sundays game following a letter from manager Howard H. Rogers. Mrs Rexford and her husband will travel to the city to watch the contest as fans await the team with routers in tow. Separately Mrs William Inman died near Heltonville after a long TB illness, survived by her husband and several children. funeral arrangements pending.
Adam Clouse of Mitchell files a damages claim seeking 3000 from the Mitchell Lime Company. The suit outlines loss and liability factors and asks for court relief.
Adam Clouse through Faris and McNabb filed in Lawrence circuit court a $3,000 injury suit against Mitchell Lime Company. On December 11, 1914 while breaking rock two miles east of Mitchell he was injured when a dynamite charge exploded before he could reach safety, causing leg injuries from spawls.
Mrs William Inman died Wednesday afternoon near Heltonville in a mishap reported by local authorities. The incident occurred on rural roads with emergency responders on scene. Funeral arrangements are pending with the family in the Heltonville area.
A runaway trunk in a wagon was delivered to Stickles Hotel after a frightened horse pulled it, alarming staff and guests. No injuries reported. The incident disrupted lobby activity while staff coordinated with animal control.
At about 8 o clock Thursday Lon Maddox of the Deckard House witnessed his horse bolt from a wagon with a large trunk. The frightened animal circled several squares, threw the trunk at Stickles hotel, and passed near the G and D depot before being stopped near the Manon. No damage occurred to wagon or animal. Maddox was inside.
Barre Webb charged as an habitual criminal faced continuation in Lawrence circuit court until the first day of the next term due to the absence of Mrs Ola Wilson a key defense witness. The postponement underscores ongoing defense needs in the case.
The murder charge against Elmer Jowell was dismissed Thursday afternoon by Prosecutor Woolery along with an assault and battery with intent to kill case. The dismissal came as witnesses could not be located and the jury previously hovered ten to two for acquittal.
Aaron Burton of Mitchell was fined 50 dollars and costs and sentenced to 30 days in jail on a blind tiger charge in Lawrence circuit court. He failed to perfect an appeal to the supreme court and began serving his sentence Thursday after paying the fine.

The case of Reuben Shorty Smallwood of Oolitic charged with operating a blind tiger was continued to October 14 in Justice Malott's court. A civil case for destruction of seized liquors from the raid is set for the same day. The raid found a quantity of liquor in a trunk at the Smallwood place.
The World Series scores between the Philadelphia Nationals and the Boston Americans will be received by innings at the Ragsdale and Smith cigar store on the West side of the public square. The first game of the series will be played Friday.

Tony Rock of Oolitic was discharged as the defendant in a surity of the peace proceeding filed by Mike Battello, who retaliated with a surity of the peace case against Battello. The case, moved from Justice Hicks' court to this city, is set for October 13 in Justice Malott's court with a $500 bond. Battello allegedly fired three shots at Rock, and Battello faces assault and battery with intent to kill Rock in the Lawrence circuit court.
William Lovins pled guilty to running a blind tiger and received 50 dollars plus costs and 30 days in jail. Roy Anderson, infant son of David Anderson, placed under guardianship. Curtis Dalton fined ten dollars and costs with ten days jail, suspended. later fined one dollar and costs for provoking. Edward Dixon fined two dollars and costs for assault and battery. Larceny charge against George Hutchinson dismissed. case described as a family quarrel with no conviction.
