Athens reports the Greek Chamber of Deputies passed mobilization funding, with mobilization dollars allocated for defense. The action centers on the declaration of the State of Selge in North Macedonia, as observed by the United Press.
John Connor, ex city smoke inspector under Bell, testified he collected money from saloon keepers and handed it to Bell. Hendricks Kenworthy, Board of Works book keeper under Bell, said he collected about $200 from saloon keepers and gave money to Bell, with sixty to seventy dollars in question.
Peter Porter drove a traction engine across a bridge over Plum Creek near Robinson and narrowly escaped death when the engine sank through the structure. The accident happened Wednesday while moving the threshing outfit from one farm to another. the engine was wrecked but Porter was not injured.
A cheerful gathering of Willing Workers was held Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs Ed Johnson. Guests shared conversation and refreshments in a warm community setting.
J Underwood has been appointed to represent Lawrence County on the Grand Committee of the Indiana Historical Commission. He accepted the honor from W C Woodward, director. The commission will collect state history and prepare for a centennial celebration next year. About twenty five county men from various industries will join Underwood on the local committee.
The Lawrence county grand jury will probably conclude its term by Friday after a very busy week and a half. Numerous witnesses appeared before the panel, indicating a heavy workload.
At a Wednesday evening session in circuit court Gladys Davidson questioned ex John W. Davidson regarding Morge operators. The hearing continued with testimony and exhibits presented by both sides.
The aged father of A J Fines died at his Owensburg residence Thursday morning. He was a long time resident and his death marked the end of a local family lineage with ties to the community.
Gladys Davidson, with attorney Charles R. Gowen, files in Lawrence circuit court for divorce from John W. Davidson alleging cruel and inhuman treatment. The suit identifies the spouses and cites alleged mistreatment as the ground for divorce.
Coteries from the First Methodist First Christian First Presbyterian and First Baptist join in making fancy works and preparing canned fruits bread cakes pies and other eatables for a Salvation Army bazaar all day Saturday at the Salvation Army hall on last 16th street. Proceeds aid Hendersons rescue homes and an organ is sought to aid the event.
Mrs Robert Taylor and Mrs C Massey hosted a Wednesday dinner in honor of Mrs Jane Berry and her daughter. Attending were Mrs Jane Berry Mrs Effie Slinkard Mrs Sam Scoggan Rev M C Clark and wife. Joe Drehoble plans improvements to a West Thirteenth Street cottage. Sam R Stevens from near Heltonville visited the city. Thursday.
Miss Misses Mary Helen and Alice Curren held a box supper at their home on East 17th street to honor telephone operators and guests. Decorations featured dahlias nasturtiums and telephone bells. Refreshments included brick ice cream cake and mints. Born Tuesday night to Mr and Mrs William Chambers a son Philip Evans. Mr and Mrs Mack Newland traveled to Indianapolis on Thursday to visit their son. Mr and Mrs C H Rust of Franklin Mrs Clara Rust Mrs Rose Roberts and Joseph Allman of Brownstown who had attended court here returned home Wednesday morning.
Ollie C. Overman 61 a county native living with the McDonalds died by self inflicted pistol shot in the Dr. A J McDonald barn on Fourteenth street Wednesday afternoon after years of poor health and a morphine habit. Coroner ruled death a deliberate act. funeral arrangements set at the McDonald residence with burial in Mitchel cemetery.
More than six hundred names were attached to a petition for a city liquor election filed by the Wets with County Auditor Ezra Edwards. The petition will be reviewed at the next county commissioners meeting, likely Monday. A 20 percent vote threshold applies, and a post petition notice would set an election date after 20 days.
