Banks Ready to Resume Currency Payments Soon

Prominent financial figures expect banks nationwide to resume currency payments after the issuance of 100 million dollars in Treasury certificates of indebtness. Massive gold imports are cited as enabling banks to raise note circulation and release several millions in currency for loans today. The call rate may fall to normal, and officials doubt further large gold engagements abroad. Since the crisis began, 81.225 million in gold has been obtained from foreign countries, with most arriving in New York. About 125 million has been withdrawn from New York banks and an estimated 535 million nationwide. Clearing house certificates circulate in 23 cities with over 100000 population, totaling 75.69 million in New York City.
