Hartman is escorted on a mock throne through city streets while the bride stays at home with her in laws, delaying the couple’s wedding trip. The couple, popular in social circles, plan to winter with the bride's parents and start housekeeping in spring.
William Brough of Stinesville pleaded guilty to attempting to rape twelve year old Bessie Myers and was sentenced by Judge Wilson in Bloomington to the Jeffersonville reformatory for from two to twenty one years. Brough, twenty two, attacked the girl last summer and narrowly escaped mob justice.
A 1908 Lawrence county mass meeting at the courthouse mobilized about 50 Democrats to back John W. Kern against Taggart. Dr. A J McDonald presided, Albert J Field served as secretary, and resolutions endorsed Kern while another expressed sympathy for Gus Weyerbacher’s widow.
Lin ton post office carrier No 1 Chas Moss was arrested by U S Deputy Marshal Rankin of Indianapolis on charges of selling cancelled postage stamps. Bond set at 300 dollars for appearance in Indianapolis on November 25. Case built on stamps removed ink and used on letters. Officials say only small quantities could be moved daily. Moss well regarded locally and arrest shocks his friends.
Milt Covey aged 55 a well known Bartlettsville resident fell from a steep bluff while traveling to visit his son about half a mile from home. He broke his right leg, cried for help, and was brought back to his house. He had previously fractured the same leg about a year earlier and was just recovering when it broke again last night.
Columbus Indiana reports an unusual dry spell with a contractor digging fourteen feet for a sewer noting dry ground at all depths.
