Jean Reed Jr the son of Charles Reed of North O street fractured his arm in two places after a roller skating fall Friday afternoon. This is the same arm previously fractured four weeks earlier when he fell from a horizontal bar.
The Greencastle Banner accuses Indianapolis papers of indifference and mercenary motives for not reporting Governor Ralston calling troops and the strike conditions. It claims merchants and papers seek state business, hoping readers won't learn the truth until the strike ends.
Paul Francis Jenkins seven year old son of Mr and Mrs George Jenkins died at home on East 17th street at 2 pm Saturday from diphtheria. He had been ill for several days and medical help Friday night was unavailing. Burial occurred Sunday at Green Hill Cemetery at 2 pm.
Indianapolis troops return home as Traction & Terminal Company and unionists accept Governor Ralston’s plan. Public Service Commission will arbitrate all disputes and workers resume within 12 hours ending a weeklong strike.
Mrs. M C Lee, mother of Mrs. O J Schafer of this city, died Friday at St. Edwards Hospital New Albany after six years as an invalid. She leaves five daughters and six sons. Funeral services were held in New Albany and the remains were brought to this city Saturday forenoon for burial at Green Hill after a leno ovelock.
Howard Owens a New Albany barber, 58 years old and unmarried, died by morphine poisoning in a closet behind his brother Ollie Owens drug store. Coroner Dr. C. K. Briscoe notes signs of opium poison. the death is attributed to despondency during a personal crisis. Owens was born and raised in the county near Buges Chapel and was widely known in New Albany. He had recently boarded on West Fifth Street.
Tuesday's Salem election drew a large turnout in calm weather with 711 ballots cast. Incumbent Grant McCory defeated veteran officer Henry Medlock by a 96 vote margin in the marshals race, as reported by the Salem Leader.
Three suits filed Saturday through Boruff and Boruff name the Southern Indiana Power Company as defendants with total damages sought at $21,000. Plaintiffs Laura E. Newland Lula M. Quackenbush and John Jackson allege land along Salt Creek has been made worthless by the Williams Dam. Newland seeks 3000, Quackenbush 8000, Jackson 10000 in damages.
In a rare double wedding at the County Clerk’s office, Rev. A J Dubber officiated as Carl R Hamilton of Martinsville and Martha Edna McKinney of Mitchell wed, joined by Frank Westerfield of Salem and Elnora M Knight. Witnesses included the office employer and bystanders.

Unexpected news to the community last night reports the death of Wm H Worley at age 49. He founded a drag business fortune after 16 years as a drayman and owned life insurance of about $8,000. Worley also served as a Knights of Pythias and Red Men member with a large family including wife Lottie and children Burys, Wm Arthur, and Theodore. Funeral set for Sunday at 2 pm at his West 1st Street home with Christian church services. He was born in Bedford and had long lived in Bloomington.
Elmer Webb attempted a 30 foot roof leap to escape from a jail cell but fell from the ledge injuring a broken arm. Webb and Carr had pleaded guilty to petit larceny and were sent to reform school for one to eight years. Webb unsuccessfully sought parole.
Jesse Shipley of Billett Illinois and his wife visited his sister in Columbus Indiana and reported to Sheriff Burns that he was robbed of 50 dollars while asleep on a B and O S W train between Mitchell and Seymour.
Viola S Keithley wife of Benjamin Keithley died at her home on Heltonville road Saturday afternoon at 1 30 o clock after long illness lung trouble. Funeral services were held Monday at Buges Chapel by Rev John Williams with burial at Buggs Chapel. Gideon Potter of Fayetteville visited the city Saturday on business.
The Dobson family thanks neighbors friends and Rev Dubber and Rev Owen for kindness and flowers during illness and death of wife mother and sister. List of surviving relatives includes J W Dobson Mrs Cassindia Brock Raymond Dobson Louis Dobson J T Wagoner Mrs J Brock M C Brock.
