The American Army of Occupation, about three hundred thousand strong, is prepared to advance into the heart of Germany at any moment if Germany refuses to sign the Peace Treaty and military pressure becomes necessary. Official word from Washington states readiness.
Paris reports in the last day suggest fears over peace delays have diminished. Leavenworth dispatch notes secrecy around reports of a riot at the United States Disciplinary Barracks.
Mrs. Maggie Sims died Tuesday in Indianapolis in a sudden death event. No further details on the cause or circumstances were available in the readable text.
Col Williams and Dr John R Pearson travel to Bloomington as witnesses in the damage suit of Chester Ingalls against the City of Bedford now on trial in Monroe circuit court. Ingalls alleges a 1917 18 ice fall near the Fell building caused a broken hip and seeks 25000 dollars.
Mrs John Meno, taken to Rochester Minnesota for treatment, underwent a surgical operation at the Mayo clinic May 19 by Dr W Mayo for relief of kidney stone. One stone was marble sized. Patient doing as well as could be expected. G G C Crawshaw of ShoalsCivil War veteran visited the family of his son Harry Crawshaw West 12th street. Mr and Mrs C W Deckard and two daughters of Needmore visited Kurtz to see Mr Deckards parents and relatives.
Levi Gill of Leesville relays how his friend Frank Gillan died from shrapnel wounds received while digging a trench in 1918. Gillan, a local resident, was among the second Lawrence County men to sacrifice, after being wounded August 25 1918. Levi lately returned from overseas duty with Company B 112th Infantry U S A.
Situron Volney Kern and Miss Grace Hall of Fayetteville wed Saturday at Rev William’s home. They then visited the bride’s parents near Fayetteville for a noon dinner. Relatives and friends joined a Sunday dinner with the groom’s parents in New Albany.

The Public Service Commission of Indiana has postponed the hearing on the Interstate Public Service Company petition to vacate, abandon the hot water plant in your city from May 28 to June 4. The hearing will still be held at City Hall starting at the announced time.
Robert S. Duncan a prominent farmer and orchardist in the county was found dead by hanging in a coal shed near the Donica school house nine miles north of the city. He had left his home in Bedford around 5 am and driven directly to the scene. Duncan was 155 years old and had suffered a malignant influenza infection and heart trouble recently. His widow two daughters and three brothers survive. Funeral plans await Helen Duncan's arrival from Washington.
Word comes of the death of Mrs. Margaret Benton Beatty widow of Rev Beattie former First Christian minister here and longtime penmanship teacher. She died in Lincoln Nebraska on April 21 with husband three daughters and one son as survivors. Her family once lived in Bedford where Prof W B Chrisler ran a college in the basement of the Christian church and Beatty taught nearby.
Delightful gathering Monday evening at Everett Corbin’s home 1928 W Ilth Street celebrated Rowena Corbin’s 16th birthday. Friends attended including Ada Fart Helen Dillman Belle Ballard Edna Corbin Catherine Dillman and others with Mike Delaney Roy Emery and Ray Collieu among the guests. The event featured music games and refreshments as well as floral decor and well wishes for Rowena.
