Paris dispatch notes Marshal Foch and General Pershing have conferred on the American Army of Occupation's role should Germany refuse to sign the peace treaty. The planning reflects Allied considerations as talks continue.
Paris May 15 The Big Four resumed consideration of the latest German proposals and the Austrian treaty. Germans are preparing notes to be addressed to the Allies. Austrians to present their credentials tomorrow.
German National Assembly members plan to return to their districts to denounce the treaty terms to their constituents, a Central News dispatch from Berlin reported today.
A Vienna dispatch reports Entente armies are prepared to renew their advance on Budapest, beginning next week, as of May 15.
Pittsburg street railway service is halted as all motormen and conductors walk out at midnight demanding higher wages and a raise across the system.
Linton Indiana on May 14 reports no telephone service since 4:15 PM as temporary agreement with operators expired. The Central Union system plant in Linton is idle after counter proposals were rejected, with a deadlock over union recognition.
The Cox versus Southern Indiana Power Co. suit filed in the Jackson circuit court is projected to last about three days. Originating from Lawrence County, witnesses from the area testified. The plaintiff seeks $8,000 in damages for land injury allegedly caused by a dam built by the defendant company.
Henry Bowman six years old died Wednesday at his home at Fifth and R streets. He had recently moved from Orange County near French Lick with a daughter who kept house. The remains were taken to his former home in Orange County for burial Thursday morning.
Isaac H Odell aged 73, Civil War veteran and longtime insurance man, died Tuesday night at his Evansville home. Frank Odell of Felden Fields, in charge of the Purdue Experimental Station, received word of the death. Survived by three sons and one daughter. Funeral Friday at the Evansville home.
Delbert Stephenson, long held prisoner at Cassel, Germany, has arrived in the United States after an extended captivity and is back home about two weeks.
War Mothers held a notable Tuesday gathering with four World War heroes. Seret Roy FE Murphy spoke of Croix de Guerre honors and abstaining from tobacco or alcohol. Harry Owens Earl Baker Ray Seidel and others shared experiences. interludes included songs and readings. Burial of Howard Lane occurred at Danelt Cemetery after funeral at Monon No. 7.
Leonard Hiner of Howard Lana, Norman Station Man, died at Bloomington. The funeral service was held Thursday at the local church with details of the death noted in the obituaries column.
A casualty list includes Fayette Clark of 1721 KE Street. Clark, returned home months ago without a leg from near Chateau Thierry, served with the engineers and is recorded as slightly wounded in the latest report.
Col John J May of Portland Oregon visits Redford to renew old ties. He is assistant superintendent of the Portland Division of the Southern Pacific and a three stripe colonel in the Oregon National Guard. Several locals from Heltonville Bedford and Erie attended a Leesville centenary meeting Wednesday night.
Burglars gained roof access and forced a rear window at Dobson & Ramsay hardware Gainey Grocery and Leader Dry Goods on Wednesday night taking only small change. About 20 dollars total. Dobson under five, Gainey about 12, Leader 3.60. Blood hounds traced trail east to 18th Street then toward Monon rail yard before it was lost.
The Town and Country Club hosted a brilliant Wednesday evening event to mark the season opener with nine tables of Bridge and 500. James Avery and Mrs. George Tovey led in Bridge while Tom Barton and Mrs. E. G. Beiriger won in 500 as music and dancing filled the festivities. Mrs. Noah Mullen returned from Rochester after her son Ralph’s Mayo Clinic operation, and Bill Rariden eyed a return behind the plate as Rube Marquard prepared to pitch for Brooklyn.
Warren Benson of the Daily Mail circulation department was struck by a slowly moving auto while returning from school. He was knocked down and dragged a short distance but suffered non serious injuries after Dr. Pearson provided medical attention.
A fire burned timber at the Southeastern Shops on a Wednesday afternoon, calling out local fire department. About 900 feet of hose were used before the blaze was extinguished, with ignition attributed to an accidental cause.
A Quinn plumbing company truck blew a tire on West Sixteenth Street this morning and nearly struck a shade tree in front of the Hugh Whiting home. The vehicle sustained damage but no injuries were reported.
Lieut Byford F Menaugh, 29, nephew of Dr T Menaugh of Harrodsburg Kentucky, died at a Presidio California camp after recently returning from France. He served eight years in the U S forces and his body was sent to Harrodsburg for burial. Mrs Mary Newkirk mourns the shock of his death. George Sullivan of Latwrenceport was in the city Thursday.
