Indianapolis May 8 Hon Nathaniel A Hill Bloomington former state treasurer died at University Hospital after gall stone operation. 56, he served as state treasurer 1902 1907 on Bloomington First National Bank board of trustees Indiana University trustee and Republican leader. He declined anesthetic during surgery and watched surgeons at work. News also notes death of Bedford resident Fred Anderson in California age 17, Bright’s disease, former Oolitic resident.
Enos Humphrey, engineer of the ill fated B and O S W train wrecked by a landslide at Sparksville, dies at Seymour hospital Thursday afternoon at 3 45. Dr Winton of Cincinnati arrives after 2 pm and shares prognosis of little chance for recovery. Brother Frank Humphrey of Kinmundy Illinois and sister Mrs Swartz of Salem Illinois were present at his death.
Ike Denniston pleaded guilty to stealing wire used to light Washington Park on March 18. Judge Wilson gave two to fourteen years with immediate parole for good behavior, under State Reformatory supervision. Co-defendant William Shields faces circuit court trial after pleading not guilty. The wire was worth about $100.
A Brown County man owns a dog that hunts ginseng rather than rabbits. The dog scents roots in the woods then bays as if treed a game animal. The owner retrieves the ginseng, stores it like tobacco, and sells it, growing rich while the dog guards the prize.
The Manitou Colorado Journal reports four graduates Alta Jones Eldo Lowther Frank Smith and Frank Stoessel. Stoessel earns valedictorian honor for best four year average while Jones takes second honors. Stoessel averaged 914 Alta 879 10 with top honors securing a $200 State University Boulder scholarship and second place a $100 Colorado College grant.

Louis Squires known as a crippled oolitic peddler of lead pencils and jewelry was struck and killed by a backing Big Four train at Bedford Union depot. Mrs Gertrude M Spaulding wife of Oliver Spaulding dies at home on South J street at 5 30 pm Thursday She is 28 and survived by her husband and four children The funeral was held Saturday at 2 pm from the residence with interment at Green Hill
