Tokio reports an ultimatum to China from Japan giving until Sunday to accede to demands that would place China’s international affairs under Japanese influence. If China refuses, force is implied.
The Local Council of Women met at First Presbyterian Church to discuss the Chautauqua planned for June 24 to July 1. Key details include no Sunday programs, Band Day with Pallaria’s Band, and appearances by Alice Nielsen and other celebrities. Committees and venue finalization will be decided at the June 2 meeting.
Mrs Amanda Cline of Bedford dies at her children's home in Bloomington where she had visited for two weeks. She was over 85 and mother to Dan Herman and Lou Deal Cline along with John Charles Ed and James Cline. Her husband had died years ago and she was known as Grandma to many.
A Salem defendant named Miller Ghat faced trial at January term but the jury hung. The case was dismissed without a verdict.
Prosecutor Masterson of Washington County and attorneys Ematt Jel liolt of Salem and McCart McCart of Pauli on the state side request reopening the case against Wilbur Miller charged with the murder of Grant McCary. The January term jury in Lawrence Circuit Court hung on a venue change from Washington County and a grand jury investigation was deemed desirable. Mrs James Culhan and others left for Bloomington for a Pocahontas District meeting.

Mrs. Priscilla Leach Hamer widow of Geo W Hamer died Wednesday evening at the family home one mile west of Rivervale after a four month illness. Born September 15 1843 at Bellville Illinois she was 71 years seven months and 20 days. Funeral Friday at 10 AM at the home conducted by the Mitchell Baptist minister burial in Hamer Cemetery. Survived by sons Albert Ralph Hamer of Rivervale and J Frank Hamer of Mitchell a sister Marietta Hawkins Los Angeles and half brother Robert J Stroud Mitchell.
Bedford community activities center on May 10 to 15 as Clean Up week. Mayor commends the Community Club and local women for efforts to beautify the city and calls citizens and business leaders to join the campaign for a healthier, more attractive Bedford Indiana. The program includes civic uplifting sermons and a May 10th evening meeting.

TPP has purchased the stock and fixtures of Stipp and Cornwell Grocery, taking over the store’s inventory and equipment. The deal transfers ownership and operations to TPP as the former grocers exit the business.
Harry G. Allen as Receiver sold the stock and fixtures of Stipp and Cornwell’s grocery to Ed A. Stipp who will continue the business. Three lots were bought by W. F. Clark. Mary Phillips was granted a divorce from Fessie Phillips. John McCart, a youth, paid a $10 fine and served 10 days for visiting a house of ill fame. The Dougherty vs McKee breach of promise case from Greene County set for trial today. The term’s last case ends Saturday with no court until September. The Ulysses Pender graft case was postponed to later in the term at defense request due to lack of notice.
