Councilman Elisha Hyatt of the Fifth ward claims a bolt of lightning struck near his home and allegedly flipped him in bed. The Washington Democrat questions the tale, casting doubt on Hyatt’s account of the event.
Dr J H Coleman of Kirksville Monroe county pleaded guilty in police court to practicing medicine without a license. He paid a total of 85 dollars including a 25 dollar fine. Coleman claimed to be a cancer specialist and was arrested at the request of Dr J T Freeland. His alleged partner Dr Burns of Bloomington faced a similar charge with trial set for Monday March 30.
A county farmer tried to treat hogs with strychnine after a friend suggested it for poor growth. He fed the entire quantity at once, killing nine hogs and prompting regret over the ill advised medical experiment.

A three hour back yard battle near Bloomington ends with the eagle Tim killed and Brownie the bull dog badly injured. Brownie escaped as Tim lay dead, while owner Timberlake faces a loss of 70 dollars and the police were called to end the fight. Two large Siberian wolves shipped to Bloomington by Robert H Harris attacked a horse in Samuel May’s barn. The wolves, kept behind a partition, burrowed under the wall to reach the horses and bit flesh from the horse’s leg as it kicked at the wolves. May, a teamster, watched the confrontation unfold as the animals frightened the horses.
An examination for clerk and carrier will be held at the post office in this city on April 18 1908. Age limits 18 to 45 years. Married women not admitted. unmarried women admitted but eligible for appointment only as clerk. Males must be at least five feet four inches tall and weigh at least 125 pounds. Samuel Mc Laughlin administrator for Harry Cantrill's estate sues the Monon Railroad in Monroe Circuit Court for 10000 alleging foreman William Trussler caused Cantrill’s death last November near Smithville. Cantrill died November 20 after a handcar accident when he fell and was struck as the car did not stop.
The case State vs. Isaac Dennison for larceny of electric light wire at Washington Park was moved from police to circuit court. Dennison pleaded not guilty before Judge Wilson, trial set for the next term, bond fixed at 300 dollars, which he did not post, and he was remanded to jail.
The February term docket in Lawrence circuit court was cleared with final adjournment on Saturday. The term was hampered by the late Republican primary drawing interest from many attorneys and officials, leaving criminal business largely unfinished.
