Oldest Lawrence county citizen dies at home
Henry L. Skerd, one of Lawrence county's oldest natives, died Thursday at 6:45 PM at his son-in-law and daughter's home on East 15th Street. He was 78. Funeral was Friday at 2:30 PM from the residence, with services by Elder John Williams and Rev. Edwards. Burial: Skerd Cemetery east of town.

James Wining McMillan Dies at 77 in Washington
Gen James Wining McMillan veteran of Civil and Mexican Wars and member of the Pension Bureau Board of Review died at his Washington home at seventy seven. He was born in Clark County Kentucky and once neighbor to Abraham Lincoln. His widow and three daughters survive him.
