Work has begun on the East Bedford sewer project as a crew with a steam drill excavates rock from the old Glover quarry southeast of the city for use as crushed aggregate. Quinn, contractor, says digging for sewer lines will wait for favorable weather, with the deepest trench to run about 21 feet at 19th and 11 streets.
A baby died after a fire north of Politic on Wednesday afternoon. Authorities investigated the cause and identified the infant, with local officials coordinating the response.
Funeral services were held for Roy Black at Hopkins Cemetery north of Oolitic on Wednesday at 1 o clock. The child, a year old son of Mr and Mrs Black, was buried in the family plot. A separate house fire while the family was away is mentioned as context with investigators noting the fire origin. In Monon a train wreck derailed several cars of freight train No 74 between Orleans and Mitchell causing delays to southbound passenger train No 3 for hours.
Two patients who underwent appendicitis operations Wednesday at the hospital are reported to be resting fine this afternoon. Surgeons Dre Joh Ro Pear and Mrs. Mitchell assisted, with staff Norinai.
A Williams incident reported as a dramatic wreck with Dr. McCoy injured turned out to be greatly exaggerated. The car swerved and struck a stump but McCoy escaped serious harm and was later taken back to Williams to complete his duties.
One new motor bus started operation Thursday for regular city trips with a modified route from the original plan. Officials say this single car will not yet offer first class service but should begin a high quality motor bus operation and attract riders as the public learns the habit.

W. I. Brown, bridge foreman for the Southeastern Line, dislocated his left shoulder Thursday while at work just east of the city. He was brought to the tool car and Dr. Morris Simpson attended the scene to set the shoulder.
Harry Riggs 15 year old son of Mr and Mrs Tempest Riggs died Wednesday night at their North street home after several weeks illness. Born Sellersburg October 6 1897 he lived in the city several years and worked at Carter grocery. Short funeral at home Friday 7 pm conducted by Rev O Haver. Body goes to Smith’s Station near New Albany for Saturday funeral services and burial.
Miss Ertie Bivens of North H Street was seriously hurt Thursday when she slipped on North T Street near Harry Grietffe’s home. She suffered severe back and spine injuries while en route to work as a bookkeeper at the I. I. Pitman grain and feed store.
About a hundred Seymour residents are summoned to appear before the grand jury in Brownstown with reports that fifty or more may be called this week. The secret proceedings focus on liquor and lottery law violations and other county offenses as Prosecuting Attorney John Underwood aids the jurors.
A fire at Pike Jones's occupied home near the B&O switch Thursday afternoon caused a roof hole from a faulty flue or falling soot. Firefighters quickly doused flames with water and replaced burned shingles to ensure the fire was out. Jones is the father of the boy killed months earlier by a train near the B&O station.
Enoch Cheek former Mitchell police chief faces a domestic dispute case in Indianapolis. His wife and three children told Bicyclemen Golinich and Bastin of a troubled twenty five year marriage with a knife jab incident after Cheek argued over breakfast and stove movements. He says he struck back and the son delivered a punch in the jaw.
The Senate confirmed President Wilsons cabinet nominees and Edgar E Clark as interstate commerce commissioner. John H Marble nomination referred to the interstate commerce committee. Democrats named Kern and Republicans Gallinger as caucus chairs. In the House Champ Clark named speaker. Underwood re elected Ways and Means chair. South Trimble clerk. Sinnott doorkeeper. Sergeant at arms won by Gordon over Ryan. Several seats filled on Ways and Means. Western Democrats push to limit chairmen on other committees. Palmer chaired the Democratic caucus Ashbrook secretary Murray assistant secretary.
Mrs Lettie Dodd, long with a Nashville wholesale firm, is expected Monday to spend the summer with her sister Miss Fannie Dison. Squib J street.
Indianapolis March 5 A legislative roundup notes passage of the Cut wild onions and garlic bill by the House after prior failures and a Posey county drafted measure. Other actions include suspending rules to study labor hours for women, boosting appellate judges salaries, and various local and state budget moves.
