Fire Department Responds To Monon Coal Chutes Blaze
Firefighters were called Wednesday night to the Monon coal chutes to extinguish a blazing smoldering pile. The department fought the fire for about an hour before it was out. Separately, Lafayette conductor Barger was shot to death by his eighteen year old son at his home, the motive given as alleged abuse of the mother. The son, a recent high school graduate, has reportedly confessed amid conflicting statements from the mother and others. The victim was well known among railway workers and had long served the Bloomington Lafayette division.

The remains of Robert Trinkle who was accidentally killed by a train at Marshalltown Iowa were brought to his home at Fredericksburg Indiana for burial.
