Proprieter J. E. Pitts Fatally Wounded at Excel Plant
J. E. Pitts, proprietor of the Excel plant in the west part of the city, suffered severe crushing and cutting of his left hand Thursday morning when caught by a machine. The injury extended across the back of the hand to the bones, severing the bone behind the third finger. Anaesthetics were used to dress the wound, and doctors believe permanent crippling is unlikely. The same hand had a prior similar injury.

Widow Minerva Tucker Dies After Short Illness
Mrs. Minerva Tucker widow of William Tucker died Thursday at 1 30 PM at her Oolitic home after a brief illness. She lived in Oolitic all her life and was 61. Death resulted mainly from an abscess of the breast amid a complication of diseases. She leaves eight children six daughters and two sons all residing in Politic. Funeral services will be held at her residence Saturday with burial in Old Union cemetery.

Bedford Concert Band Performs Varied Program

Lightning Strikes Linton Area Killing Child and Damaging Property
In Linton Indiana on July 9 a son of Martin Elliott living three miles south of Lannon was struck and killed by lightning at 4 PM. The Vandala mule barn No 9 burned to the ground and the front of Union Lumber Co was blown off with telephone lines damaged. A miners train struck an automobile driven by John Hewitt manager of Vandalia Coal Co seven miles west of Linton the car was thrown thirty feet over a cattle guard. Hewitt survived unharmed.

Mitchell Caves Becoming Popular as Summer Resort
The Hamer and Donaldson caves east of the city grow in popularity each year as a summer resort. No major work is done to improve them yet. adding seats, swings, and tables could boost attraction. Injured boy taken home from hospital after accident
