A dog poisoner has attacked the city over several days, killing multiple pets and prompting owners to fight for their animals. One fire department mascot named Dan was poisoned but showed signs of recovery. A fire call on North Street featured a convulsing dog biting through the crisis before its rescue run.
Flood conditions worsen as White River reaches about twenty seven feet Thursday afternoon. Creeks overflow and Salt Creek floods cut off Bedford routes, forcing travelers to use railway bridges while Leatherwood peaks and recedes.
Mr and Mrs Mack Stricker hosted a Washington Avenue party Wednesday for their niece Miss Marie Taylor of Pueblo Colorado. Guests included Bertha Litton Ethel Bruce Daniel Lyons Ralph Bruce and Ova Sites. Mrs Stricker was assisted by Mrs Harry Thomas.
The Mitchell Tribune reports a cat belonging to A. O. True endured a genuine 15 day fast with no food or water, light, or fresh air. The cat was found alive 15 days later, able to eat and expected to recover fully. An upcoming revival at the First Christian church is announced with M Dubber preaching and Trucksess in charge of music.
Mary E. Garretson, formerly of Springville Indiana and daughter of Preston Brassfield, now living in London, pens a article for the London Pillar of Fire titled The Hand of Providence in the Balkan War. The piece condemns Turkish conduct and calls for divine judgement.
Mrs. Howard Fields of West 21st street suffered a sprain and nervous shock when she stumbled over a coal bucket while hurrying across the back porch this morning. Mrs. Ben Green visiting Mrs. Campbell Fields and Emily also of West 21st street returned to Harrodsburg on Thursday. Jance Coleman bought a fine pair of Percheron mares in Missouri.
A fire at Wes Collier’s North G Street residence Thursday around 2 o clock caused clothes left to dry to ignite. The blaze caused smoke in the rooms but no damage to the home owned by John Goldsby. Mrs. Collier was visiting a neighbor when the fire started and returned to find the clothes burning on the kitchen range.
The Bloomington grand jury is expected to indict in the killing of ex Fire Chief Todd this afternoon. Tomorrow about 125 school youths from Bloomington and Ellettsville will testify about pool rooms and tobacco sales to minors. Two boys at a time will testify then return to class to minimize disruption.
Bloomington police officer Henry E. Dudley faces two charges filed by Richard Brown a Singer sewing agent. The case stems from arrests of men for poker in a downtown real estate office and an affidavit against Brown after a mistaken name was used. Dudley's trial is set for January 31 at the city hall.
Frank Patterson of West 16th Street is reported suffering with the grip. News note provides no further details on his condition or the status of his health.
Mrs Eliza Childers aged 34 wife of William Childers of East Oolitic died Thursday morning at 9 o'clock. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 o'clock from the East Oolitic home. Burial will be at Breckenridge cemetery.
In Lawrence County hundreds of Democrats face party bosses at county conventions. Local voices condemn the Democratic bosses and demand reform while praising many voters as excellent citizens tired of control by party leaders.
Bloomington High School meets Bedford High School in a 7 30 PM game at the high school gym Bloomington features a strong squad and fast pace. Admission 25c and 15c Mrs W C Denniston of West Thirteenth street fell seriously ill at supper with malignant pneumonia.
About 2:00 a m Tuesday fire broke out in the summer kitchen of a house owned by A T McCoy and occupied by John Shepherd in Southeast Mitchell. The blaze spread to the residence, destroying both structures before firefighters arrived. most of Mr Shepherd's household goods were saved and the buildings were insured.
