The Board of Managers in session seeks to end prisoners falsely claiming younger ages to avoid Michigan City prison. Under current law those over 30 go there, so some claim they are under 80. Superintendent Whittaker will seek parole denials for such cases and require evidence of genuine reform before future parole. The number paroled at this meeting will be smaller than in months.
A large First Christian church audience enjoyed a Bedford musicale by Nova Evans. Evans opened on the pipe organ, Mrs. McCain impressed on piano with duets, Mrs. McCormick’s contralto impressed, mandolin mastery shown, Ethel Deckard elocution, Estelle Huffines on violin, and the Mitchell Quartet received hearty applause. the entertainment stood with the best.
Charles Sherman was tried in a night session of the Lawrence Circuit Court and found guilty of petit larceny. Judge Wilson imposed a one to three year indeterminate sentence in Michigan City Prison for allegedly taking a pair of pants valued at four dollars from a boarder named Tony Charlotta, and later aiding in the misplacement to Riley Foddrill for sixty cents.
Boonville bloodhounds followed the trail of the Albaugh general store burglars who rifled $18,000 on Thursday night. Trails led to the lockup, Main street, a corn field and near Beaver Creek before fading. One man jailed. Taylor’s account suggests others aided. $1000 reward and 10 percent of recovered funds offered.
Gov. J. Frank Hanly files a six count impeachment complaint in Marion Circuit Court alleging mis conduct and embezzlement in office. The suit cites improper use of state funds, failure to report receipts, and resistance to audits, with Storms to answer by January 13 and final hearing within twenty days.
Chief of Police Myers filed complaints against Milt Blackwell and Karl Kramer owners of two South I street saloons for violating the Nicholson law by allowing others in their premises on Sunday. He reports visiting Sunday morning and observing breaches. arraignment for trial has not yet occurred.
Walter Duffy a rural mail carrier forded Clifty Creek yesterday evening and was forced to swim for his life. He saved the mail by placing it in a pouch before the horse and wagon disappeared downstream. Within a mile of the accident 12 persons have died in floods. Clarence Drinkard of New Albany is visiting Bedford friends.
