Ralph and Edith Medaris sue Fred Bailey in Lawrence circuit court through Underwood and Underwood for $10,000 each, alleging defaming of character and anguish after Bailey caused them to be charged with larceny on December 25, 2012, with no preliminary hearing and dismissal on December 30.
Mills Murphys and Norton Mitchell found guilty in Justices Tieminger's court on a trespass charge at a Pleasant Run township school building. Each was fined 31 and costs after three well dressed men posing as hobos drew city interest by asking for food at rear doors.
Charles Gost a Macedonian from Mitchell wed Grace M Duncan an American girl from Mitchell in a ceremony performed by Mayor Fields. Gost owns property in the county and the couple plan to reside in Mitchell Curtis Clark of Heltonville, uncle of W E B Clark, is in stroke paralysis and was admitted to a hospital after a long illness. he is now at Seymour institution and able to entertain visitors.
Representative Homer Cook of Indianapolis won the Democratic caucus for Speaker with 76 votes amid a move by insurgents to curb powers of the Speaker. The House and Senate plan reorganizing sessions, with Republican Eschbach named Speaker and Will Wood chosen President pro tem at their caucus.
Richard A. Thompson sues Southern Indiana Power Company in Circuit Court seeking $2,000 damages over alleged unhealthy conditions and malaria blamed on the Williams Dam. Plaintiff owns a farm cut by Salt Creek and claims the dam raises the water by about five feet, floods about twenty five acres, and injures his dwelling and neighborhood.
Pittsburg and nearby towns along the Allegheny Monongahela and Ohio Rivers face a record flood forecast as Forecaster Henry Pennywitt warns of the worst since March 1907. By tonight the river at Pittsburg was 28 percent feet and rising, with Wheeling expected to reach 48 feet and impacts including mills closing, job losses, and outages in electricity and rail service.
The local barbers union voted to issue a 35 cent price card for hair cuts effective February 1 but after public discussion and an open meeting the price was changed back to 25 cents. The move sparked controversy but was labeled a public-spirited correction, while a separate note reports W F Mitchell of Williams died from blood poisoning after cutting his hand while whittling a cedar cane at his relatives’ home. Mitchell, born near Mt. Salem church in Monroe County, had moved to Williams years earlier.
The Stone City club fields one of the state’s fastest amateur basketball teams. After two close losses this season they schedule a Friday game at the high school gym against Shoals independents. Shoals features many on their former championship squad. The will-be-hotly contested clash starts at eight o’clock.
A four foot rise in White River wash washed out temporary supports and carried away a new bridge span under construction at Jlliston by the Vincennes Bridge Co. The loss cripples the project. completion was set for October 1. Bloomfield will lack bridge service until next summer as repairs proceed. Mr and Mrs Marion Taylor have returned from Los Angeles to settle here.
Western Union Telegraph Company local manager laments the loss of an overcoat taken by mistake from a restaurant. A replacement coat was left, but the owner also lost a pair of gloves given as a gift. The swap was accidental. the other man is known and resides out of town, hoping to return to settle the exchange.

Brownstown post office began parcels post last Wednesday with a lamp chimney as the first item mailed. Other items modified include crutches a bucket of persimmons and a pound of butter. An eight pound package to Clearspring could not be mailed as printed matter and was refused by the rural carrier. The editor urges a department correction.
In Indiana, Bedford ranks tenth for bond applications totaling $1,900 while Indianapolis leads with $9,920 and other cities such as New Albany Logansport and Elkhart report varied sums. A Postmaster General Hitchcock report lists all city bond requests as of January 1 with Bedford among the lower end of the list.
The Woodward Lumber Company of Lapel Indiana bought 200 acres from the Gainey and Gunn estate near Springville for 5000 dollars. Through real estate dealer Frank O Stannard of Springville the purchase was arranged and a sawmill is planned at Springville to process the local timber.
Erwin Emmonds of Oolitic entered a guilty plea in police court on Thursday for fast driving. He was fined one dollar plus costs.
