The advertisement extolls Dr Pierce Favorite Prescription as a safe cure for female ailments praising its ingredients and promise of honest labeling. It claims to avoid surgery and emphasizes no alcohol and non habit forming drugs while offering free consultation by letter from Dr Pierce in Buffalo New York.
Purses have been stolen from women across Bloomington with at least thirty reports in months. Miss Edith Flood, a University of Terre Haute junior, fought a thief at 5th and Lincoln as Miss Bertha Hanger watched from 115 south Lincoln. The man in an auto cap and double breasted coat grabbed Flood’s purse containing $5 and fled north on Lincoln.
The United States Cement Company unveils designs labeled Bedford Cement at a Chicago exhibition. An ornamental arch four feet thick and 14 by 9 feet in size showcases a new concrete process. Molds were made by J C Melaney of New York at Bradley's stone plant for display advertising Stone City.
The Capitol Commission reports delays due to chipped columns for the Kentucky State Capitol in Frankfort. Two replacement columns were rejected after arrival last week, mirroring a prior rejection last August. The Vermont quarry remains four feet under snow delaying a new match, prolonging completion by several months. Bedford stone is heavily used in the structure.
James Drake recently moved from Bedford to Los Angeles California. A heavy timber fell on his feet at a lumber yard a few days ago, amputating one of his toes.
The council announces no ward changes will be made and the proposition is dropped. A constitution of ward apportionment is challenged as unequal and questioned for legality. The matter will be held in abeyance pending further review.

Due to alleged unequal apportionment and legal questions the council abandons the plan to create four wards set for December 10. City Attorney advised waiting for annexation and the old ward lines remain in effect until new boundaries are authorized by future action reported by the MAIL.
Carl W Rid dick, secretary of the Republican state committee, reports apportionment of delegates for the next state convention. Total delegates and alternates decline by hundreds from the last convention, with most counties reducing seats except Dubois Ohio and Posey in the far south. Lawrence County drops from twenty to sixteen under the traditional 200 vote per delegate rule.
Bedford officials weigh a new north end school after the Dive Schoolhouse fire. With East and West sites full and city hall rooms crowded, residents near North Lincoln oppose long commutes. Officials note funding limits but emphasize education value and potential tax support.

A Me non train strike at Mitchell crossing killed Matthew Jeames of Medora and John Wade of Fort Ritner. Both men were walking on the tracks to a saw mill when a switch engine pushed cars from an opposite direction. They were instantly killed with Wade’s head crushed and Jeames’ body mangled. Coroner Voyles was summoned. Wade’s family prepared to take his body to Fort Ritner.
The Dive schoolhouse burned Thursday night and officials increasingly suspect incendiary origin. Nearby on the Meyers farm a barn and residence were destroyed earlier in two separate fires of mysterious origin, suggesting a possible pattern of deliberate fires late at night or early morning.
William T. Embree declares his bid for Commissioner in the Third District, subject to the Republican Primary. A successful farmer and businessman, he is described as a lifelong Republican and among the county’s best citizens. The Dive School near East Oolitic burned last night around 10.00 pm, killing all books and destroying Miss Mary Hobson and Otto Dixon’s records. About 90 pupils lost their books. total losses cited include 150 dollars per student and 25 dollars for Hobson’s records, with property insured for 1200 of a 1800 building. The fire led to suspension of classes until a new building is erected. Bedford firefighters assisted as flames were seen in nearby Breckinridge county. origin is listed as possible stove or incendiary.
Judge Wilson in the circuit court made permanent the restraining order on the State Railroad Commission's coal rate from Linton to Lehman. The B and O S W and Southern Indiana railways failed to agree on a joint rate after the commission reduced the price from 75 to 59 cents per ton. If no agreement is reached by the 80th, the commission will fix a rate binding on both companies.
Donald and Arnold Ford, sons of Edward Ford, testified to Coroner Harris that their father acted in self defense when Joel McCoy and Frank McCoy advanced with raised axes on Brummett's Creek leaving Ford no choice but to shoot. The brothers said their father was forced against a fallen tree and crowded by Frank McCoy, and that they stayed only to ensure help would come. They noted Dave McCoy appeared with a shotgun, and defended their father’s actions as necessary to save his life.
At Atlas suburb nine men faced Indiana assault and battery charges after a christening party. Names are described as Hungarian and unusually difficult, with Joe Pollock losing part of a thumb and Andy Visk leave imprint marks. The fight drew 9 or 10 participants and battered heads, while the infant slept through the disturbance.
Prominent Bloomington physician Dr Fred Batman formerly of Bedford will wed Miss Pansy A Runner of DeKalb on Monday at the bride's home in Chalbane. The ceremony follows a romance that began in Chicago at St Luke's Hospital in 1904 during Batman's interne years and Nurse Runner's training. The couple plan a brief Chicago honeymoon before returning to Bloomington and establishing home on East Kirkwood Avenue.

Nancy Nugent of near Mitchell files for divorce in Lawrence Circuit Court from Otto Nugent an inmate at Jeffersonville Reformatory. The complaint cites statutory grounds with Nugent serving a penal sentence. A Jeffersonville dispatch notes Nugent walked away August 4 to see his wife and is now the defendant in Bedford proceedings.
Uriah Quackenbush, a well known Avoca farmer, reported a theft last night. A sneak thief entered the cellar and carried off about ten bushels of Irish potatoes and a bushel of sweet potatoes. In the act, the burglar left behind a heel from one shoe. A birth is noted for Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hines on South I Street.
J J Stark 86 once a prominent stock raiser and politician is taken from Gosport to the county jail and sent to the poor farm after insanity finding and exhausting fortune. Once rich with 2200 acres and race horses, flood losses and debt ruined him. his guardian Isaac Van Buskirk arranged care. Stark weeps as he begins his last journey, wife and children mentioned in Paragon and Indianapolis.
Financial circles expect the fifth national banks call to be issued soon. Citizens Bank reports 51775 in cash in safes and Bedford Bank 45180, with substantial reserves across city banks, boosting depositor confidence and currency resumption prospects.

Edward Robinson will become county treasurer of Marion county January 1 and plans a test of the new depository law. The law splits funds among different bills and payments will be made by voucher checks drawn on banks where the funds are on deposit. He warned the board that banks must return paid vouchers daily to avoid doubling treasury record work.

Col. Tom Vinnedge of Hope Indiana organizers a hog donation drive to wipe out debt at the Hope Baptist Church. Donors across the United States send hogs to be sold in Hope with proceeds split between debt reduction and donors, with Mayor Tom Johnson among contributors. The sale is planned for late this month and may attract about one thousand hogs.
