John Miller three miles west of Mitchell was unconscious after a lightning bolt struck two barns, both barns burned, Miller was rescued and later regained partial consciousness. Dr Burns treated him as the loss of structures and contents reached 1200 dollars with only a sow pigs a wagon and some harness saved.
Reverend John Skein officiated the union of Okein Evans and Goldie Evans in a Avoca ceremony. The couple exchanged vows in a simple church setting with family in attendance.
A quiet church wedding took place Wednesday evening in Avoca as Miss Goldie Vans of Springville wed Rev. John Skein of Fayetteville. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. J C Overton with friends present, followed by a wedding march and reception. The couple plan to reside in Franklin after a weeklong wedding tour to French Lick and West Baden.
Springville reports strong industrial activity with labor scarce as the lumber industry employees nearly all workers and ships much timber from the town.
Nugent named as victim in a home incident on East 18th Street with authorities investigating. Police reported no other injuries and said incident remains under inquiry at the residence of the mother.
Roll Nugent died Thursday at 12 50 PM after a five week illness of typhoid at his mother's home on East 18th Street. He leaves his mother Mrs Sarah Nugent and two sisters Mrs Ollie Skerd of Terre Haute and Mrs Mollie Scoggin. Funeral services Friday at 3 30 PM from the home with burial in Tkerd cemetery.
A Thursday inquisition considered Lydia J. Poor’s mental condition to determine her competency to stand trial. Proceedings examined her ability to understand charges and assist in defense under applicable court rules.
Mrs. Lydia J. Poor of Zelma was Thursday declared to be of unsound mind by a medical board led by Drs. Norman and Simpson before Justice of the Peace George O. Iseminger. Relatives will care for her until hospital admission for the insane can be arranged.
John Roberts son of Sherman Roberts of the Oolitic road will Friday morning undergo at his home an operation for relief of a deceased bone of the shoulder. The bone has been affected for some time and the operation is difficult.
Indiana Public Service Commission will hold a hearing August 8 at 1 p.m. in the circuit court room to investigate Central Union Telephone service and rates. Robert Owens led a petition with local subscribers. Commissioner Murphy will preside. ten witnesses were summoned. Central Union manager Paul Higman said the company aims to fix issues and respond promptly to complaints.
A light shower in Mitchell followed by a four hour downpour south of town benefited local crops. Train crews observed heavy rain several miles south while Mitchell itself received lighter rainfall.
Bennie Melvin of this city and Carrie Beavers of Kurtz have been issued a marriage license in the Brownstown Banner. Bartlettsville farmers union held a Friday picnic at Curt Sowder grove with about sixty attendees and a ball game. Emma Friedley, recently discharged after surgery, returned home on Lincoln Avenue. The First Christian Church Sunday school class girls visited Campbellsburg for a Clifty picnic.
The Bedford Concert Band presented an open air program Thursday at 7:30 p.m. featuring overtures, waltzes, and marches including Adjutants, Golden Sceptre, Haunting Eyes, The Mill in the Forest, Dragon's Call, In My Harem, Soldier of Fortune, and Little Traveler. Mrs. James Culhan returned from Indianapolis elated over the Catholic federation convention. Dr. Yandell, ill with paralysis, showed improvement. W B Wicker traveled to Indianapolis to visit his son Leland.
The senate resumed general tariff debate with Lippitt offering a substitute to the cotton schedule. Clark of Wyoming attacked Wilson's Mexico emissary move and urged administration action, proposing an investigation into American conditions in Mexico. The lobby committee heard James A. Emery of the National Association of Manufacturers. Eduardo Hay discussed the Mexican situation with foreign relations. the house did not meet.
National League teams like Brooklyn Philadelphia Boston Chicago Cincinnati Pittsburgh and St Louis show records with wins and losses. American Association and Western League games include Louisville Kansas City Toledo St Paul Milwaukee and Omaha with scores and delays.
A freight wreck near Ladoga Wednesday night delayed Southbound Monon train No 3 for about three hours. The train arrived in the city about 7 o clock.
Harry Donica now with Decatur Illinois will arrive Saturday and join Washington's Washington game Sunday at Woodlawn. Bob Wicker's Champs face the Greys with Laws umpiring and Butts from Linton likely behind the plate as the crowd expects a lively Sunday.
Ira Neal a 38 year old farmer near Springville was found of unsound mind by a medical board after an inquiry in Justice Iseminger's court. He threatened his children and friends and was confined in the county jail awaiting admission to the insane hospital. The board consisted of Drs H E Mitchell J R Pearson and J B Duncan.
