The report from Bavarian Berlin states Warsaw has fallen after brief resistance as German forces under Prince Leopold broke through the last defenses. German troops reportedly entered last night and are driving Russian forces back from the Vistula bridges as they push forward.
A four year old girl, daughter of Mr and Mrs Norman Guthrie, suffers a broken left arm after a sidewalk fall at home. Roy Mitchell, thirteen, son of Mrs James J Mitchell, is sentenced to Plainfield Boys School until age twenty one for prior incidents, including alleged revolver theft from H Q Alten. He is the son of James L Mitchell who was murdered east of the city years ago. two men serve life for that crime.
Biazzi Ferrante, an Italian resident of Reeds Station, was struck on the head by a flying spall while performing duties at the P.M. and B. Pipp quarry at Oolitic on Wednesday afternoon. The wound was about one inch long and required medical attention from Dr. Collins of Oolitic.
Thomas Hudson, employed by Quincy Rainbolt east of the city, was in serious condition after a sudden illness while transporting a load of wheat. He received care from Dr. Mitchell for over two hours before returning home. Mrs. Polk Gardner, badly injured July 5, remains confined to bed with stable condition. Sadie Miller and Cora Riggs of Mitchell traveled to Trinity Springs for a week with friends. A daughter was born last night to Mr. and Mrs. Ed Brinegar near Springville.
Through a three month campaign the Michigan State Committee for Relief in Belgium raised thousands of dollars for Belgian relief. Detroit contributed about half in flour and foodstuffs as ministers and local committees boosted the drive. A chimney caused a roof fire at Fulton Bundy’s residence on East Seventh Street on Wednesday at 4 30 pm. North End Fire Department arrived quickly and extinguished the blaze, burning only a small amount of shingles with damage estimated at a few dollars.
The Chamber of Commerce and citizens of New Albany Indiana plan Dixie Highway Day at Glenwood Park Chautauqua auditorium on August 10. Govs Ralston and McCreary and officials like Bookwalter Taggart Fisher are among likely speakers. William Reynolds through attorney R L Mellen sues Mitchell Quarry in Lawrence Circuit Court for 10000 alleging fifty workers at the quarry and a 400 pound stone dislodged by a co worker struck him on Oct 20 1914 injuring his shoulders arms hands and back. A judgment for damages is sought.
Frank the seven year old son of Mr and Mrs George King of Oolitic was thrown from a horse Wednesday afternoon during a ride with a companion. He suffered a broken left arm while his companion escaped with minor injuries.
Charles Tosti of Sanders reports his brother Frank in Chicago narrowly escaped the Wastland disaster. Frank, aboard the steamer when it capsized, saved himself by leaping onto a garbage barge and reached shore safely, according to the Bloomington World.
George Mundy of Highland Park suffered a deep forehead gash when a car crank sprang loose and struck him above the eyes at his home. A local physician treated the injury, which could have been more serious.
