Muncie Indiana April 1 Mayor Rollin Bunch Police Commissioner Herbert Maddy and Chief William McKivan were indicted for accepting fifteen dollars weekly from Elmer Shell owner of a cigar store in return for protection in operating a blind tiger.
A fire in Needmore at 4:34 P M damaged the Emers Dobbins store basement where hay and straw ignited. The bucket brigade saved the building owned by Burrel Watson though stock was moved recently and insurance covers the loss.
Funeral services were held in Columbus for MWoyd Lawrence Foster infant son of Mr and Mrs D M Foster. The baby died from burns after a coal lamp exploded near the East Seventeenth Street home. The body will be transported to New Albany Friday for services and interment. A witness who found the infant in flames suffered a nervous breakdown.
Funeral services for Miss Miranda Rawlins were conducted Thursday by Rev. Frank Lenig at the Rawlins home. A large crowd attended and the service featured floral offerings, a choir from First Methodist, and a solemn tribute before the procession to Green Hill cemetery where she is laid beside her parents.
J B Smiley of Indianapolis, father of Mrs George L Tovey of West Fourteenth Street, suffered severe fractures of arm and shoulder in an automobile crash at Lawrenceville. Doctors report no critical internal injuries and expect a full recovery. X rays taken at an Indianapolis hospital show no serious complications. George L Tovey drove to Indianapolis with Mr and Mrs Sherb of the city on Thursday.
Washington April 1 The Navy Department ordered the American cruiser Olympia from Key West to reinforce the squadron on the Mexican east coast. No reason given for the order. James H. Cathan Wednesday by officials of Elks.
Dover reports the French steamer Emma was torpedoed in the English Channel on Wednesday. News states two survivors, two dead, and seventeen crew members missing.
James T. Calhan retires as Exalted Ruler of the lodge after a season of prosperity and milestones. A brass and glass dining room shower was presented by Mrs. Caulan with guest list including Dr. Wm Casper and George Struble among others.
Miss Juanita Willey underwent an operation for appendicitis several days ago and was moved to the home of her sister, Mrs. Albert Cissel, on Wednesday to continue recovery.

William G Leudike after two weeks with his parents in Courtland went Thursday to visit relatives. He is a missionary working in Africa and was compelled to return to America because of the war abroad.
Mr and Mrs Walter Sutton travel to Freetown for a day on business and plan to drive to Brownstown next. Mr Sutton works at the Southeastern shops as an employee.
Onedin aid Howard Parker and his sister are confined to home with chicken pox that began this morning. Patrick Henderson, Herronville resident, was in the city Thursday and suffers from a severe cancer on the left hand. Mrs. IS. A. Smithers returned to Hora after attending the funeral of Mrs. J. T. Rutledge.

A shipment of two million strawberry plants from Eden Maryland arrived in New Albany for twenty four Lafayette township growers. At two thousand plants per acre the harvest could cover forty acres. Replanting is necessary after last summer’s drought, with about two and a half million plants purchased and arriving in ten days. Despite fewer vines, the district expects an excellent crop next year and near average yields this season.
