Attendees Andy Neilson Will Johnson Dave Foster Tom Cunningham and R B Moneyhan attended the funeral of Dr Hines' father in Orient Monday afternoon.
Mr and Mrs Albert Parks and Mr and Mrs Estle Parks attended the funeral of Ray Hazen in Creston Monday afternoon. Hazen was a nephew of Albert Parks.
Tom Lower died at Methodist hospital in St. Joseph on Sunday morning. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the M. E. church.
The Grizzlies won 16 of 29 games including tournaments and scored 851 points while their opponents totaled 697.
Members of the class have been appointed to work on different parts of the annual. They are busy collecting pictures history and the like.
The junior class presents Wilbur Braun’s comedy Sunbonnet Jane of Sycamore Lane at the high school auditorium on March 20. Samuel French handles special arrangements for the production. A school band directed by Mr. Griffin will perform before the show with a clarinet quartet and a saxophone solo between acts.
In Algebra class students practice factoring expressions. General Science covers light in daily life. Home Economics groups begin making dresses this week. Manford Heatherington returns to school after illness this term.
Sixth graders study clauses and phrases and diagramming. they create Easter lilies in art. Seventh graders focus on prepositions in English. Eighth graders study the Civil War and its role in sparking a new industrial revolution in social studies.
Gravity Iowa reports new students Dwane Churchill and Margaret Churchill joining third and fourth grades. Third graders finish Gates-Huber readers and study neighbors and helpers. fourth graders tour lands along the Mediterranean Sea. fifth graders imagine a trip through the Western States and solve decimal problems. Several students earned 100 in spelling. Local residents and staff are mentioned in social and travel notes.
Mrs C A Stogdill and son Maynard and Robert King traveled to Bedford and Lenox on business with Miss Genevieve Beemer of Lenox visiting at the Stogdill home. Several couples attended a basketball game in Glenwood. Leslie Preston, visiting from St Joseph, saw his father Tom Preston. Mrs Ed Lock and son Kenneth and Mrs Tom Lower traveled to St Joseph to visit Mr Lower in the hospital. Mrs Lower stayed with him as others headed home. Mrs Floyd Bush and son Eddie Joe of Vandalia Mo returned after visiting Carrol Posten and family. Mrs Ira Jewell and son Leslie and Mrs R B Moneyhan shopped in Shenandoah. Carl Werner, I M Damewood’s son-in-law, returned to Des Moines after illness at the Damewood home. Ora Cree and wife stay with their daughter Mrs Chas Huss while farm house is readied. Mrs Donald Wilmarth of Corning visited her mother Mrs Wave Madden. Glen Savage family moved to the Lee Berry farm tenant house northeast of town. Dr Reed bought the frame building north of the Independent office, plans torn down and moved to his farm northwest of town. Mr and Mrs Roy Wagoner left for Fort Collins Colorado to make their home.
In Sharpsburg the March 13 school election produced Fred Blood reelected as director and C. H. Young as treasurer for three years. A proposal to buy acreage for a playground and a residence for the superintendent failed, 26 in favor and 72 against.
Mrs. Ralph Rutledge hosted the Bridge Club Tuesday evening with help from Mrs. Frank Ransford and Mrs Franklin Anderson. Refreshments were served.
Mr and Mrs Howard Eno Mr and Mrs George Rutledge Mrs Joe Cochran Mr and Mrs Albert Fickess and children attended the funeral of B F Howes at Clarinda on Monday.
The community will entertain visiting basketball teams with a pot luck dinner Friday evening March 24 at 7 30 at the school gym. Everyone is welcome to attend and bring a dish and table service for the meal and program that follows.
The Presbyterian Church postponed the Every Member canvass planned for Sunday. Rev. Mr. Morton of Villisca will conduct a communion service on Sunday March 19 at 11 o clock. The Rum-Join Us Club will host a pancake supper and musical program at the church on Friday evening March 17.

Milton studies wrap English Literature class. Basketball portraits were retaken by McRae Studios. Senior play practice begins with cast to be announced next week.
Sharpsburg residents and relatives visited in Lenox New Market Omaha and St Joseph. Guests included Marvin Brown O M Brown Lawrence Kirby and families with multiple siblings and friends. Several moves and family visits marked the week as members traveled to farms and relatives nearby.
The Guss River rises to its highest level in years washing away fences and logs at Scott and Earl Curtis farm. Nearby residents report multiple family moves since March 1 as neighbors relocate to safer farms and homes across the area, with several families vacating Stamps, Hess, Curtis and Ridnour properties and others moving to farms near Nodaway and Bedford.
Mrs Ross Woods hosted the Sunshine Club with nine members present and Violet Rock arranging the program. refreshments were served. Mrs Paul Firkins hosted the J. D. K. gathering with seven members, drew names for mystery friends for the year, and refreshments followed.
Guss Locals Ralph and Raymond Stowell of Ewing Nebraska are visiting relatives this week. Scott Curtis Henry Freuck Harry Himiller and Estle Werner were Bedford visitors Monday. Glenna Mae Freuck spent Friday and Saturday with her sister Mrs Paul Firkins.
The State Historical Society of Iowa released a 1938 biographical sketch of Robert Gordon Cousins, Iowa’s former representative to the state Assembly and Congress. The Bedford Public Library received a copy. the volume includes about twenty five speeches and addresses by Cousins, praising his oratorical skill and historical knowledge.
