Elizabeth Herson Dies at Farm Near Clearfield

Elizabeth Herson at her farm near Clearfield died Sunday. Born January 28 1849 in Times she was near 100. Survived by two sons Cleve and Burdette. Funeral at Presbyterian church Diagonal with burial at Diagonal cemetery. Nearby residents moved into Clearfield area and properties changed hands.

Women’s clubs hold gatherings across community churches

The Women’s Council of the Christian Church met at Mrs. Roy Nickles home on Wednesday. The W S C S of the Methodist church gathered at the parsonage with Mrs. D C Callison as hostess. The Grant Center ladies met with Mrs. Wm Osmond for an all day meeting Thursday and tied a comforter for the hostess. Mrs Dean Lyddon hosted the Hiway Culture Club Thursday evening.

The Gravity Methodist Church holds worship at 10 with the sermon on Self Examination and Victory. Church School follows the service. A request has been made to establish an evening song service.

Mr and Mrs Did Dowling and family moved to Sumner Iowa last week. Mr and Mrs Gerald Valentine moved to the vacated property. Francis Lucas and family moved to Coin. Merrill Leighton moved to a farm north of Gravity. Arthur Anderson and family from Nodaway moved to the vacated Leighton farm. Dean Allen moved from Gravity to a farm near New Market where he will be employed this summer. Mrs Allen plans to teach her school east of Gravity.

Dr and Mrs E J Janson hosted the basketball girls at dinner at the Chicken Inn west of Creston on Thursday evening. A crowd of young people greeted Mr and Mrs Lewis Walker Thursday night and were treated to candy bars after a lively gathering.

Shirley Crow, a Maryville student, spent several days with her parents Mr and Mrs Clarence Crow before returning to school Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Harry Livingston of Cherokee visited relatives here last week before heading home Friday. Lee Mitchell learned of a cousin’s death in Westboro Missouri last week. Mr and Mrs Harry Cole spent the weekend in Des Moines for the basketball tournament. Will Heatherington returned from a California trip and is visiting relatives at Gravity. Bill and Vera Brown came back last week from northern Missouri where they had been on business.

Hopkins Pastor Resigns At Local Christian Church

Rev Ellea Martin presented his resignation as pastor of the Christian church on Sunday morning.

Pastor Resigns to Lead Clarence Church

The membership accepted the resignation of Mr. Martin who planned to assume the pastorate of the Christian church at Clarence Missouri. The church regrets his departure but his ministerial plans can be carried out more fully in Clarence. He began his pastorate here on September 1 1946.

The Jolly Mixers Club held a Legion Hall pot luck supper Thursday hosted by Mr and Mrs Orville Browning Clarinda and Mr and Mrs Harry Chambers. The American Legion and Auxiliary celebrated their anniversary with a Legion Hall supper hosted by Mrs William Weir Mrs Raymond Morrison and Mrs Walter Zackart directed by Mrs Wesley Brown and Mrs Robert Wieser.

Andrews Family Hosts Dinner in Coin Iowa

Mrs Anna Andrews and relatives were guests at a Sunday dinner hosted by Dr and Mrs W H Buchleiter at their Coin Iowa home. The Buchleiters and Anna Andrews’s father Al plan to move to Clear Lake Iowa. Hopkins Bulldogs lost to Chillicothe in the Maryville regional tournament Thursday night.
