Bedford Senior Barbara Snyder Wins District Speech Rating

Barbara Snyder a Bedford High School senior won a division I rating at the district speech contest held in Leon on February 25. She and sophomore Frank Wetmore advanced to the district contest by earning J ratings at the preliminaries in Corning and will compete in the humorous division with selections The Show Must Go On and On and On.

Bedford High Future Teachers Substitute In Grades

The Bedford High School Future Teachers Club, with 11 members, substituted in local grades on February 27 when regular teachers attended a PTA meeting. Cadet teachers covered kindergarten through seventh grade under sponsor Mrs. Van Dyke.

World Problems Class Visits City Council Meeting

A 15 member BHS world problems class attended the regular city council session on Monday evening March 4. Students observed council discussion of city matters and routine business such as approving bills. Instructor Kathryn Kirketey said the visit aims to show government in action and clarify differences among city council, manager, and commission forms.

BHS Report Cards Issued Today

BHS students received their fifth and sixth week report cards for January 14 to March 1. Principal Kenneth E. Miller notes each card shows the student’s composite ratings for citizenship cooperation courtesy dependability and initiative during the six week period.

Character Traits Focused In BHS Special Session

BHS held special homeroom discussions at 3 30 pm on February 26 to stress positive character traits. Teachers said employers often ask about former students’ integrity and trustworthiness and warned students to avoid behavior seen as moody deceptive or unreliable while outlining key qualities.

Junior Band Delights Band Mothers in February Meeting

The Bedford junior band performed at the Band Mothers organization gathering on Wednesday afternoon February 20. Six numbers were played by sixteen members under director Vern R. Hallenbeck. A snare drum solo by Tommy Snow and a French horn solo by Julia Stacy were also presented.

Youth Problems Discussed By Local PTA Group

Miss Mildred Ross of Northwest Missouri State College spoke to a local PTA group on February 27 about elementary student issues. The meeting for kindergarten through sixth grade parents included a humorous reading by Barbara Snyder and refreshments organized by Mrs. Marvin Salen.

BHS Students Present Contest Selections

Students presented their speech contest selections to the student body on Wednesday February 27 at 3 15. Arrangements were made by King Wisdom BHS English II and dramatics instructor. Participants included Mary Ida Stephens Nancy Marley Karen Johnston Frank Wetmore and Barbara Snyder with various readings and dramatic pieces.

Community Notes From Conway Church and School Events

M Modré Mrs Leona pitehigh and Mrs Audrey Grubb were honored at a Conway birthday party at Mrs Moore's home. Eighteen ladies played pinochle in the church community meeting. Choir practice was Friday at 7 20 pm in the school music room. We had 88 Sunday school attendees. Mrs Byron Denton is the new M Y F sponsor. The Fish Fry supper Friday evening was sponsored by the WSS GS and church women. Mr and Mrs 8 B Beemer returned home Wednesday. Missionary work in Japan noted. Mr Merrill Perry furnished special music for services.
