Bedford School News notes Drivers Club members at BHS received window and windshield stickers reading Member Town Teen-age Drivers Club during the February 21 meeting sponsored by 40 Gyal Shirk. A showing of Once Upon A Time promoted safe driving. The club meets every other afternoon from 3:30.

Pastor Mr. Travis spoke to high school and junior high students on Paul's second letter to Timothy in the school chapel. Marie Downing introduced the speaker and led the singing with Evelyn Russell accompanying.

Homemaking Style Show Set For March 8 At BHSS

BHSS homemaking classes prepare for a March 8 eight o clock style show in the auditorium. Seventy seven girls will present a series of country themed acts with Hawaii France Mexico Holland and New York represented. Joye Emert will sing while TII class performs a Japanese skit featuring modeled clothing. Admission is charged.

Bedford High Chorus to perform at Mt. Ayr Blue Grass Festival

Sixteen Bedford High School mixed chorus members will join the Blue Grass Festival in Mt. Ayr on Friday March 11 after a full day of practice. Participants listed include Twyla Weeda Janie Fellows Maurie Downing Karen Johnston and others. festival managers will notify selected local band members. Towns involved include Bedford Corydon Lamont Lenox Leon Mt. Ayr Osceola and Géymour.

About 130 term papers were turned in by February 28 as part of an annual assignment by Mrs. Kathryn Kirtkey to American history world history and world problems groups. Each student writes about a study subject or person. world problems students describe life careers.

Driver Training Car Logs 200 Miles Weekly

The BHS driver training car covers 200 miles weekly for 20 students in Mr. Shirk's class. An additional 200 miles weekly are driven by Virgil McKim ferrying nine rural kindergarten pupils daily at noon. The 1954 Ford used by Taylor County Motor Co. shows 7,834 miles to date.

Safety mottos posted weekly in high school study hall

Quotations framed on the north wall remind students of safety and personal responsibility. Superintendent R F Van Dyke arranges changes at regular intervals. Past mottos include Remember it can't always be the other guy it can be you and There never has been or never will be an insurance policy written to cover a broken heart.

BHS Senior Wins Homemaking Award

Bertha Wintermute a BHS senior topped a homemaking knowledge test with the highest score and will advance to name this state's candidate for the ATI American Homemaker of Tomorrow. She earns a gold pin and cookbooks for herself and the school. national winner is April 21 in Philadelphia with a $5,000 scholarship, state winners get $1,500 and a Washington DC trip. Cozad Speaks At Hedford P T A Meeting

Mr. Cozad a safety specialist from Des Moines spoke at the Hedford P T A meeting in the school lunch room on Wednesday evening February 23. He is head of the safety division of the Idwa department of public instruction. A safety film was shown and refreshments were served by mothers of the third and fourth graders.

Unique Themes For Sophomores Assignment Details

A sophomore English class under Mr. Monty Pitner received a vocabulary based theme task. Each student listed 25 words, swapped lists, and wrote themes using the 25 words. After submission, students will be tested on their partner’s original word list to verify spelling and definitions.

Bedford Public Schools End Fourth Six Weeks

The fourth six weeks ended February 25 with report cards issued March 2. Each student's card lists scholastic grade effort citizenship tardies and class absences. The five marks appear on every grade card for enrolled classes.

BHS Vocal Students Entertained at Tea

BHS mixed chorus and girls glee club members were served at a tea on Thursday afternoon February 24 at 5 30 p m at the high school. Mrs Ringold vocal instructor hosted the event to show appreciation for the students work during the year. Punch meringues ice cream and berries were offered with pink snap dragon table decorations.

Bedford High School Music Entries Planned for Three Contests

Bedford's music department schedules three contests: March 18 in Tarkio Missouri for mall groups, April 1 in Lenox Iowa for state small groups, and May 7 in Oakland Iowa for large groups. Instrumental soloists include Bristow Brown Cumberland Cummings Livingst on Osburn Pullen. Small groups span trumpet trio to trumpet quartet and saxophone sextette. Van Dyke Attends North Central Area Council Meeting

Supt. and Mrs. Van Dyke will attend the March 3 meeting in Des Moines for work with high school youth. The council will discuss applying findings of the National Hi Y Tri Hi Y Study to local Hi Y and Tri Hi Y clubs in the North Central Area with representatives from Iowa Minnesota Montana North Dakota South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Opening Day set for Hopkins State Bank in March

Mrs Ellen Hall Dies in Hopkins Funeral Held

Mrs. Elizabeth Ellen Hall died at her Hopkins home on Thursday February 24 at age 90. Burial followed at Hopkins Cemetery after funeral services at Wray Memorial Methodist Church led by Rev. Earl C. Griffith. She was born in Noble County Ohio and lived 45 years in the community. Survivors include daughters Maude Kreps, Mrs. Harry Ruddell and Mrs. Earl Godsey. sons Vere Hall and Earl Hall. sister Mrs. Frank Rogera. brother Charles Flowers. 32 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Burial was in Hopkins Cemetery.

Clayton Cloverleaf 44H met at the home of Shirley Fudge on Feb 14 with eight members and two leaders. Janice Schollian spoke on mat material color and texture, Gwen Moore spoke on frame selection, and Shirley Fudge demonstrated mounting a picture in a mat. Next meeting set for March 7.
