Fifty Years of Marriage Celebration at New Market

New Market celebrates the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hunter with a dinner at their home. The gold and white wedding cake was made by Mrs. Earl Phillips of Red Oak. Attending were Mrs. Elsie McAlpin and Mrs. Charles McAlpin with children, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil McAlpin of Clarinda, Mr. and Mrs Earl Phillips of Red Oak, and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Werts and family of New Market.

Heavy rain on Sunday forces postponement of the Children’s Day program to Sunday July 2 at 8 p m. The Father-Son Banquet is set for Thursday July 13 at the Methodist church with reservations urged. Sundays theme is Paul The Christian.

Ladies Aid Society hosts meeting and plans banquet

Mrs Eva Journey and Mrs Mary Anderson led a Thursday Ladies Aid session with thirteen members and one visitor Mrs John Godfrey. A father and son banquet was set for July 13 at the church with a committee of Grace Webb R M Tuttle and R R Watson.

Social scene fills week with visitors and hosts

A long list of guests and hospitality fills the week in Red Oak and vicinity. In one day Rev. T J Overholt hosts Alvin Beery family and Miss Thora Huff just back from Iowa after visiting relatives. Others arrive and depart between Des Moines and Kansas City with plans for wheat harvest and extended visits. Local residents host, attend church events, and share news of traveling relatives and upcoming home talent chautauqua.

Eastern Star holds annual guest day in Hopkins

The D. S. C. social organization of the Order of the Eastern Star held its annual guest day meeting at the Masonic Temple Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. D. A. Sargent, recently ill at home, is reported to be improving slowly. Rev. Richard Lockwood and family from Barnard visited Hopkins Sunday and he preached at the Christian church. Rev. E. C. Gates of Kansas City has been employed as minister at the Baptist church. Mr. and Mrs. Vance Geiger of Redding, Iowa, visited friends in the area Sunday.
