The Methodist church parsonage is being redecorated this week with work furnished by members Mr and Mrs Edna Besco Henry Besco and daughters Verner and Nadine Mr and Mrs Ray Kernen met at the Harley Wintermute home Friday evening for Mrs Wintermute s birthday anniversary Homemade ice cream was served The Four Square class met at the home of Mrs Anna Hunter with eight members and two guests present Refreshments of ice cream and cake were served The Philathea class will meet in the church basement Wednesday July 12 Those born in the second quarter are honored guests The Culture Club met at the home of Mrs Clifford Rose to discuss Hidden Taxes with guests Mrs Coakley of Creston Mrs W W Palmer Lila May Burch of Illinois and Mary Burch of Estherville Ten members were served

New Editor Succeeds J Frank Lowery in Sheridan
Sheridan welcomes a new editor for the Northwest Missourian as he takes over from J Frank Lowery. The Lowery family will stay in Sheridan for the time being. Rev Mr Keltner of Grant City preaching at Sheridan Christian Church Sunday evening and plans to fill the pulpit first and third Sundays each month as the church resumes services after a period without a minister.

A State Historical Society of Iowa publication marks the Mennonites hundredth anniversary in Iowa 1839. Melvin Gingerich of Washington Iowa authored the study noting 4000 Mennonites in eight communities in 1938. The work surveys marriage family dress schools music folklore church life and the relation of church and state.

James Hankins of New Market died June 30, 1939, aged 52 years 6 months 19 days, survived by wife Effie May Bunker and four children. he spent his life in New Market area and worked 35 years in meat, grocery, and livestock trades.
