Night racing planned for Iowa State Fair in 1933
Officials announced plans to illuminate the Iowa State Fair half mile racing oval using floodlights similar to those used for night sports. Electrical engineers will start immediately to have the track ready by August 25, with a seven foot white canvas wall around the back stretch for visibility. Two races will be held nightly from August 25 to 31 alongside existing events, and night racing is expected to boost evening attendance without altering daytime races.
