Robert Kirkman died after a weeks illness and his funeral was held at the Lenox home. Burial was at Peoria. Survived by wife six sons and three daughters. Community gatherings honored departing locals, church services, and social visits across Lenox, Iowa, with multiple names and places noted.
Mrs Nellie Bryant entertained the G V C club at her home Tuesday evening with eighteen members present. Guests included Mrs Mary Sweeley Mrs B L Walter Mrs Harry Walter Mrs K R Huff and Mrs Tom Lockhart. The program featured Mrs Savern Roll reading a magazine article and Miss Anna Turner reading Scotch stories. Glen Lockliter won the club high score and B L Walter took the guest prize.
Cait and her daughter Mrs W J Clark of San Francisco hosted a 1 o'clock picnic dinner and an afternoon of rock and visiting. Dr and Mrs W H Cash entertained at their home Monday evening with a lawn party where two bridge tables yielded high scores for Mr and Mrs C C Mills. Priscilla Circle met at the Methodist church hosted by Miss Winnie Haigler, Mrs Glee Poindexter and Mrs S F Hufnagel. The Social Union held its regular meeting in the church basement hosted by Mrs A A Childs, Mrs P G Beadel, Mrs Myers and Mrs Polston.
A large Blockton dinner gathering at Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Campbell's home included Ida Campbell, Stephenson and family, Denhart family, Donald Campbell family, Clara Campbell of Benton, Joe Campbell and son Joe Dan of St. Louis, and many others visiting relatives. George Campbell was rushed to be evaluated after a car wreck leaving him unconscious. he suffered bruises and cuts. Numerous locals and travelers visited kin, and residents were noted traveling to see friends in Cheyenne, Bedford, Clarinda, and other nearby towns.
SHARPSBURG enter tain S 8 class Mrs Clifford Young and Mrs Clyde Damewood hosted their Sunday school class in Bib bins park at Bedford. The Grimm family from Chicago visited George and Mrs. Grimm and relatives. Damewood daughters from Des Moines visited their parents. The Shells and daughter visited Shenandoah. Borden and Brown families visited Bedford and St Joseph. Lettie Mae Heaton visited her aunts Farnham and Bomden. Ratliffs and daughter Mardelle from Florida arrived to visit Walter Scott and wife.
Rube Shipley who died after a brief illness in Villisca was brought to Guss cemetery for burial Sunday afternoon. He spent his boyhood near Guss. Community notes record club entertainments, a barn fire, picnics, and social visits with several families in the area, plus two rains and local gossip from Guss.
