Grass Silage Requires Stronger Silos and Hoops

The 18 by 43 foot silo filled with grass silage showed moisture levels close to corn silage but pressure per square foot was about double. Farmers with slave silos may need to add steel hoops to ensure safety for grass storage and older silos should be reinforced or rebuilt with greater internal pressure allowances.
