Gravity McPherrin Adams Miss Margaret McPherring and Leonard Adams of Corning wed Saturday afternoon at Prescott officiated by Rev Bissinger. They were joined by their parents and Mr and Mrs Warren Mitchell of Corning.
Homer Franklin Nickell born January 18 1912 near Gravity died Wednesday November 29 aged 27 years 10 months and 11 days. Survived by parents Mr and Mrs Harley Nickell and brother Horace Nickell plus aunts uncles and many friends. A Gravity High School graduate class of 1930 he spent most of his life on the family farm. He was a quiet Bible student and dearly loved by those who knew him.
The Royal Neighbors met at Mrs. Mae Roush's home. Thanksgiving dinners were hosted by Mrs. C. J. Nelson, the Lewis Coy home, and Mr. and Mrs. Kent Wallace with multiple guests from Lincoln and Omaha. Out-of-town visitors stayed with the Wallaces before returning to Lincoln. Will Johnson and sister Clarence Downey hosted a dinner.
In Braddyville Gravity played two games, girls losing 16 36 with Evelyn Savage captain, and boys losing 24 29 with Bob Morley captain King as high scorer. Weekly spelling test top scorers include Joslyn Anderson Crowe Fickess Akers Alexander Gaddis Ledgerwood Richardson Biggerstaff MeMahill and McMahon.
Local column lists numerous Thanksgiving gatherings and visits. Residents travel to Des Moines Shenandoah Bedford Bedford and nearby towns while relatives and friends from Mason City Grant Creston Gravity and Lenox attend meals and events.
A Conway birthday party for Floyd Burge was held Monday evening at his home with relatives including Mrs. Nell Davis of Bedford and Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Smith of Clarinda attending. Several families traveled to visit kin in nearby towns as Rev B R Weetman and others joined celebrations at different homes.
The body of Mrs. Ada Reynolds of Gravity was brought to Guss cemetery for burial Wednesday afternoon. Attending the funeral service from Gravity were Mr. and Mrs. Will Rock, Mrs. Cinda Hess, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Stamps, Mrs. Gilbert Branan, and Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Groff.
J D Club members and families enjoyed an oyster supper at Wesley Walters home. The annual bazaar and cooperative supper occurred at the church Friday. Helping Hand Club members and families had an oyster supper at Dale King home. Sunshine Club hosted a Thanksgiving supper at Harry Himiller home. Mr and Mrs Herbert King entertained guests including Geo Carmichael and Robert. Glen Jackson and family. Spark Heathcote of Corning. The occasion honored Mrs Carmichael birthday anniversary. Mrs John Spring entertained the Helping Hand Club on Tuesday with quilting and lunch. Mrs Henry French hosted Ladies Aid for an all day quilting meeting and covered dish dinner. Mrs Lee Gray and son Max, and Mrs George Walters visited John Alexander home in Gravity on Sunday.
Dan Strain of Nodaway and many local families shared holiday gatherings across Dallas township Shenandoah and Omaha. Notable visits included Elmer Ruppert with a wife recovering in St Joseph Hospital and Ralph Stowell and son Rex from South Bend Kans calling on the Branan and Heuer households amid illness concerns.
