Miss Rose Scofield hosted a miscellaneous shower Friday at the Glen Scofield residence honoring her friend Mrs. Maxine Pershin with forty guests. Refreshments included salad cupcakes and cocoa for attendees.
Lenox residents hosted and visited for Thanksgiving with lists of guests from nearby towns. Highlights include Mrs. Lowell Bush’s Friday shower with Miss Mildred Lincoln winning high score, and numerous families dining with relatives in Lenox, Greenfield, Bedford, and Winterset.
Hopkins St Benedict's of Clyde takes first place by defeating Hopkins in the finals at the local high school invitation basketball tournament. Burlington Junction places third after beating Gaynor. Elmo high school wins the consolation. Jane McMaster, daughter of Glen and Mrs. McMaster, is named tournament queen.
John Grant recalls a doll he denied years earlier as a child, then buys happiness for his granddaughter Marcia Field at Christmas. He vows to erase past hurts by granting wishes, finding contentment in making loved ones smile and repay a long overdue debt.
Avoid rushing Christmas gifts by mailing them as they are bought or made. Last weekend guests included Mr. and Mrs. H Wiseman and sons from Burlington Junction, visiting Mr. and Mrs. Frank Andrews. Additional visits noted at BioMisier Springs. Red Cross reports progress toward an $85 quota.

Mrs. Nancy Jane Barks marked her eighty ninth birthday Saturday November 13 at her daughter Mrs. W E Caldwell’s home. A Sunday family dinner honored her with prizes for high score won by Mrs. Ray Carpenter and Frank Lowery. Traveling prize went to Mrs. Victor Parman. Bridge games at the Lowery home yielded prizes and an afternoon caller list included Miss Nile Hammers and Gerald Johnson.
Thanksgiving activities mark the week with family dinners and visits. Athelstan residents host gatherings at the Cook home and with relatives in Morris and Winfield. Churchill and Stoner family events are noted along with local travel to St Joseph and Sumner.
The District Court of Taylor County Iowa appoints Blanche Beauchamp executrix of the Adelbert Enoch Beau champ estate on November 23 1937. Creditors must file claims with authentication for court allowance and debtors must pay the executrix. Flick Lucas attorneys represent the estate.
An Iowa probate notice states the last will of M. W. Miller dated May 29 1934 and a codicil dated April 15 1936 has been filed in Taylor County District Court Bedford. December 20 1937 is set for hearing proof at 10 a.m. at the courthouse before the district court or clerk. Interested parties must appear and show cause if any.
Bedford Iowa council sets December 16 1937 hearing at 10 a.m. in City Hall to review proposed plans and specifications and contract for an outfall sewer. The Red Cross provided agricultural rehabilitation to 10,116 farm families including feed seed livestock tools and machinery costing over 599000 dollars. Rural families affected by flood waters were rescued clothed fed and sheltered while out-buildings barns and other structures were repaired or rebuilt. Medical care nursing and home refurnishing were also provided.
Last year the Red Cross introduced an accident checkout to 7 000 000 American homes and urged householders to inspect hazards themselves. A similar home accident prevention program is being conducted this year.
Public health drives join festive giving as Christmas Seals fundraising supports disease prevention. Community groups urge families to purchase seals for charitable comfort and seasonal goodwill.
