Bedford sixth graders tour Chicago on one day trip

Exhausted but happy Bedford sixth graders returned from a one day Chicago tour planned by Joe Sickels. They visited the Field Museum Washington Park and the Museum of Science and Industry and viewed the Christmas parade on the Loop. Six hour train delay returned them Sunday morning with a free breakfast aboard the Ak-Sar-Ben Zephyr.

Rehearsal Builds for Concert Band Season

With football season over the concert band has begun intensive rehearsals. Director Verne Hallenbeck notes two potential concerts this year one in winter and one in spring, but exact dates remain undecided. The 1955 56 band includes 36 members listed.

J. S. Taylor announces that student profile cards from the Iowa Educational Development Tests have been received by local school officials. B H S students may obtain their scores from home room teachers to see how they rank relative to other United States students.

Iowa Tests Aim to Guide Students to Suitable Fields

About 75,000 U S students took the Iowa Tests in early September with four hundred Iowa high schools administering them to roughly two thirds of the state's youth. Testing officials emphasize the tests' value and the profile cards meaning. The tests help identify each youngster's distinctive abilities, guiding both average and gifted students into suitable, satisfying fields.

Safety Magic Set for Bedford Audience December 7

Sgt. Carl S. Pike of Kent County Sheriff’s Department brings his Safety Magic program to Bedford School Auditorium at 10 a.m. next Wednesday December 7. The show blends safety lessons with magic acts highlighting a Safety First policy to reduce accidents.

Thanksgiving Chapel by Bedford High Hi Y and Y Teens

Dick Brown of Bedford High School delivered the featured chapel talk at the November 22 Thanksgiving service. He urged gratitude for abilities and opportunities and closed with the poem Lets Give Thanks. The event was planned by Bedford High Y Teen and Hi Y members under Mrs Nan Van Dyke and Mr Le Roy Anderson and opened with singing led by Dianne Wolverton. A prayer was read by Charles Cumberlin.

Thanksgiving Chapel Led by Marion Livingston Group

In a responsive leading led by Marion Livingston, participants included Pat Perkins Carole Pool Lavohné Spry Kay Wintermute Lanny DeMott Joe Gungon Lowell Weir and Bob Waldruff. The B H S double mixed quartet provided special vocal music and Norma Bristow read a scripture lesson on the seasonal theme. The service closed with the students singing America the Beautiful.

Ag Boys Take To Air at Hubert Henry Farm

Nine junior and senior students from BHS vocational agriculture visited the Hubert Henry farm on November 8 for airplane rides. Henry piloted a passenger plane with three boys per flight, offering 15 to 20 minute flights. He later spoke to the class about flying statistics and the cost of flying including license purchase, stressing air strength for farm boys and the future ubiquity of planes. The trips were conducted with instructor Norman Annan and the students Duane King Marion Livingston Jim Lucas Roger Mick Frank Rankin Neil Rowe Bruce Sleep Marvin Sleep and Don Vawter.

Hot Lunch Menu For Dec 1 to Dec 8

Weekly lunch listing shows menus from December 1 to December 8 with daily items. Includes barbecued sandwiches, baked macaroni and tuna, mashed potatoes with creamed beef, lima beans, potato salad, and beverages. Notable dates December 17 appears as well.

Three Months Hot Lunch Statistics At Local School

Statistics show 8085 hot lunches sold as of November 21 per superintendent R F Van Dyke. September led with 2773 lunches across 22 days, October lagged by 36 fewer. Weekly peak on Wednesdays. 485 of October lunches went to teachers. From November 1 to 21, 2090 lunches served. Student notes 80 cent meals cost 30 cents at school.

Local FFA Freshmen Tour Lucas Feed Products

Freshman members of the B.H.S. FFA visited Lucas Feed Products on November 29. They studied farm feeds beforehand and learned feed classifications and practical details about farm feeds. Accompanied by agriculture instructor Norman Annan, the group toured the facility.

Bake Sale Nets Seniors 70.26 at Severs-Stacy Showroom

B H S seniors netted 70.26 at a bake sale held Saturday November 19 in the Severs-Stacy showroom. Workers included Shirley Goudie Jackie Irvin Martha Leonard Bill Osburn Eleanor Walston David Wood seniors sponsors Kathryn Kirkete y and Louise Hallenbeck supporting class projects for Skip Day.

BHS Tardy Record Shows Improvement

Fewer BHS students are tardy this year than in the first 12 weeks of last year. As of November 17 the school logged 305 tardies, while principal JS Taylor notes the current rate equates to less than two tardies per student.

Holt Buddies 4-H Club Holds November Meeting

Holt Buddies 4-H Club met November 2 at the community hall. New member Thomas Ha Jey was welcomed. Eligible Holt Township youths are invited to attend the next meeting December 7.
