Clayton Cloverleaf 4 H club holds August events and calendar

The Clayton Cloverleaf 4-H club met August 1 at Barbara Reeds for a slumber party with 10 members and toured the Lake of Three Fires. The Calvary Go-Getters met August 8 with 20 members and 1 visitor, featuring a safety demonstration on backing a tractor to a wagon by Lyle Stoaks. Calendar entries list state fair exhibits and demonstrations, officer elections, and upcoming shows and meetings through October.

Benton Boys Meet at Jerome Manderly Home

The Benton Boys Be Square met at Jerome Manderly's home on August 8 at 8 30. The program featured two demonstrations on proper use of a hammer and pulling nails and spikes led by Robert Million and Ed Sheley with refreshments served by Mrs Mauderly.

Achievement Day Meeting At Mrs Orburn Home

A gathering on July 20 hosted by Mrs. Walter Orburn included 13 members, 3 leaders, and 16 visitors. Judges were Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Baxter. Glenda Kernen and Karen Turner performed, with a piano solo by Gloria Pullen. Mrs Turner shared Europe trip highlights and souvenirs. Karen Turner and Glenda Turner demonstrated. A slumber party was planned for August 1.

Platte Peppy Pals Picnic At Lenox Park

The Platte Peppy Pals held their annual picnic in Lenox park on August 8 at 7:30 p.m. Eleven members a leader plus a visitor toured Creston stores on Home Furnishings visiting Kunatha Store McGregor and McNabb learned about crystal and china. A sack lunch followed in Creston park. The afternoon included a tour of Anders on wallpaper and swimming at the pool with a birthday cake and Frosty for Mary Lockhart celebrating her 18th birthday.

Farmers help plan experimental field day at Grundy Shelby farm

Southern Iowa farmers, from Ringgold Decatur and Clarke counties, join county extension workers and Town State College staff to map Sept 14 activities at the Grundy Shelby Experimental Farm Beaconsfield. Verdon Payne and ISU experts will co lead a program focusing on birdsfoot trefoil, irrigation, fertilizers and legume seeding methods.

Leadership training conference shapes Taylor County delegates

Damewood and Cordel from Taylor County joined 100 delegates at the state Leadership Training Conference held at the State 4-H Club Camp. The event focused on human relations and community leadership with a 20 member camp council forming soon after. Mary Lou and Richard led several committees including flag ceremony and entertainment as adult counselors advised. The program was sponsored by State College with some expenses covered, and Bennie C White, son of Mr and Mrs White, was noted among reserve Commodores in the Iowa Navy under training at Paralia Center.

Blockton Pre School Registration And School Staff Update

Blockton announces preschool registration on Wednesday August 24 with freshmen and sophomores at 9 00 am and juniors and seniors at 10 00 am Buses will transport high school students The faculty is set for the August 29 opening Mr Frank Whaley becomes band instructor replacing Mr Ransdale and Mabel Cole takes a leave of absence to finish her assignment.

School adds varied activities and new departments

The schedule includes participation in one act plays debate declamation radio broadcasting and four years of home making. New departments will be housed in the building under construction soon. A fine music program directed by Mr. Frank Whaley is planned.
