Siam Homecoming and Chautauqua Week Activities

Siam plans a Sunday homecoming with union services, basket dinner, program, and evening church services, followed by a week of home talent shows and three act plays led by Rev. Emery and Mrs. Clayton. Proceeds support a community hall, with local classes’ contest results and various social visits noted throughout.

Ed Philpott barn fire destroys corn and hay

A barn on the Ed Philpott farm burned Thursday afternoon with about 800 bushels of corn and several tons of hay lost. The report lists numerous local visits and family travels including Mr. and Mrs. Orval Brown, Mrs. Eddie Brown, Miss Maggie Brown, and others visiting relatives, friends, or at gatherings in nearby towns.

Sheridan Kittenball Teams Spark Local Scrimmages

Sheridan hosts kittenball with teams the Wasps Hornets and Yellow Jackets. Cockleburr Ridge defeated the locals 5 0 Monday afternoon. Women players and families visited in Sheriden as residents attended social gatherings and family visits across town.

Death of George Johnson in Guss area at 77

George Johnson a longtime resident of the Guss vicinity died at his son Wes ley Johnsons home on Tuesday July 25 after several weeks illness. He was 77 and survived by his sons Wesley and Clarence seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Guss church Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. Mr. Dickey and Rev. Wayne Emry with burial in the Guss cemetery.

Lenox Family News Recap With Hospital Stay

Daryl Benson son of Mrs. Minta Benson underwent an appendicitis operation at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines Saturday and is reported recovering. Numerous visitors and relatives travel between Lenox, Des Moines, Omaha, Perry, Atlantic, Truro, and other nearby towns for visits and family events this weekend.

The T N T Sabbath school class hosted a party for Rev and Mrs McCrory and family from Cedar Rapids with a pot luck dinner and games at the church basement. The Priscilla Circle met at the Methodist church with hostesses listed. A Tyler family dinner celebrated O D Tyler's birthday with relatives from Des Moines and local guests. Martha Finn celebrated her seventh birthday with lawn games and refreshments.

Thursday Girls Social Union Met for All Day Quilting

The Christian church ladies of the Methodist church met Thursday for an all day quilting session. A noon dinner was served and the regular business meeting followed in the afternoon. Refreshments were served at the close.

Miss Margaret Jennings returned home after a two week stay with Mr. and Mrs. A S Conaway. Mrs. Emma Fulton of Des Moines spent ten days with Roy and Laura Rood. Numerous visits occurred across Lenox Blockton Bedford Bedford and Des Moines as locals hosted relatives and friends including the Roods Swan Clute Ethington and Calkin families. Several residents traveled to Chicago for the Century of Progress and to Fort Morgan Colorado and Des Moines for health and leisure while others attended Odd Fellows and Rebekahs events in Lenox and Bedford.

West Gay Booster Club Meeting At School House

The West Gay Booster club gathered Friday evening at the West Gay school house with Miss Faye Brunkhorst and Miss Agnes Freemyer leading the program. A large crowd attended and refreshments followed. The next meeting is planned for the last Friday in August with Miss Laveta Murphy and Miss Laverne Blane as program committee. Readings included "My Visit To Chicago" by Pauline Walkup and "When I’m a Man" by Robert Walkup, with music by Lavera Murphy and Lavern Blane. A solo titled "Perfect Day" was sung by Elvin Van.
