E M Posten sold a steer to L G Blakslee last week and delivered it Friday afternoon. The steer, a longtime family pet, had been reserved when other cattle were sold. The calf had been a cherished family fixture, and the children resisted parting with him.

The 4,000 ton Joseph Woodwell Co. building was slowly wheeled 40 feet north on Wood Street to widen Second Avenue. One thousand two hundred jack screws lifted the brick and steel structure as rails and rollers carried it, with 2,000 spectators watching. The move, costing 89,000, avoids a 151,000 loss versus tearing down and rebuilding.

A Shenandoah Sentinel Post report describes twelve men using screw-jacks to slowly shift a giant store northward along Second avenue. They work in rhythm like oarsmen, inserting crowbars into screw shanks and turning to lift and move the structure. The operation used 100000 feet of timber, 24 steel brackets, 1200 jack screws, 800 steel rollers, and 120 rails weighing 90 pounds per foot.
