The Chronicles of Grenville and the Golden Lion
Richard Grenville, born 1554 in Cornwall, defends liberty of the seas. He refuses Maud Gaston for love and wealth, then sails the Golden Lion to the Caribbean, scuttles her, and captures Spanish prize ships before a famed sea battle. He dies after a valiant fight in the Revenge, declaring his honor and duty to queen and country.

Debts and honor in postwar North South relations
The piece argues southern honesty will honor debts to the North whether the Union endures or dissolves, calls war a debt blocker, notes northern dishonor but denounces it, and urges South to avoid coercion while paying what is owed. It then switches to a Paris Cassation case about Zoe Herbin and a South of France convict, and concludes with assorted tales on Molalla silver, Russian sisters, and other items from European presses.
