Founders Day celebrates history with contests and auctions
Founders Day features a dog show, Classic Car and Truck Show, and a historical display. After judging, baked treats are auctioned to raise funds. Nine tenths goes to the Wounded Warrior Project, and one tenth funds a Wesley Riggs scholarship. Riggs, a Barbers Hill graduate from Old River-Winfree, died in May 2005 in Tikrit. Historian Boyce Morris Jr. presents local relics in the community building, including a Republic of Texas Navy button, old bullets, and a ship anchor. A book signing by Jean Epperson and a historical reenactment are planned. Schedule and details at orwfoundersday.com or by calling 281-576-1236 or 281-385-1735.
